stretched pouch??
hi everyone!
I am in a major deliema here! I think I may have stretched my pouch
. I woke up the other night starving like I hadnt eaten all day. Today I would go thru hunger spells to the point of feeling hypoglycemic again(this has been the first day of like starvation feeling not just feeling hungry). For breakfast I had a protein shake (26g). Then an hour later I have a granola bar and a yougurt. I waited 45-60 mins to start drinking and then by 10 I was starving! I got some peanut butter crackers b/c I dont bring snacks to work b/c it lowers the temptation of grazing and I still have battles with that (when I am home I would rather have a snack than cook-something I am slowly working on b/c I now live alone and not at home where there was always good food to eat already made or I didnt have to make it). FOr lunch I had some chicken encillada cassarole that I brought with me from home (really good not a lot of carbs...yummy!)-that was @ 12. By 4 I was starving again. I didnt eat I chugged some water and went to the gym and when I got home @ 6:15 at some dinner (same as lunch) and a bite size dove bar (My fix for the day only 5 g sugar). now its 8:30 and I am hungry again! I am not going to eat but instead go make another protein shake but I wanted y'all's opinion on this?!?!?!?!?

Sarah,
I don't think you are having an uncommon day. My surgeon warned me that at about 6 months out I would start feeling hungry again. I find I am not hungry every day. I tend to have a mini eating surge right before that time of the month. Today I had an egg with cheese for breakfast then a cup of SF hot chocolate about 10AM with water in between. I had a small container of cottage cheese for lunch - 1 hour later I had a hot tea and then diluted Crystal Light and water. For supper I had a small piece of grilled steak and a couple bites of salad. I went to the gym an hour ago and now I would love a snack so I may get a palmful of nuts or a couple of cheese cubes. I sometimes will have a SF low carb ice cream bar or SF pudding made with low carb milk (more protein) when I just have to have something sweet. I also find that some days I can eat more and then I will go several days when I can not eat much at all. I hope that helps!

Hi Sarah
It sounds like you are just having a bad hunger day. I have those days when it feels like nothing is satisfying me and then other days I can't consume much @ all. I am no expert by any means and learning through trial & error like everyone else, but I will pass along what my surgeon advised me on... He said it is normal to start having hunger around 6 to 7 months post op. He stressed the importance of taking in dense proteins @ that point, which simply means things that will fill up the pouch and stick around for a good while (ie chicken, fish, beef, etc). He cautioned me on the soft proteins and drinks @ this stage because they move through the pouch quickly and do not provide long lasting satisfaction and that these choices were better as a snack to help with protein amounts vs serving as a meal. He also suggested better choices for snacks being cheese, jerky, or deli slices because again, they wont move out of the pouch as quick as things like yogurt or soups. His nurse told me that one of the biggest causes of hunger in between meals is not getting enough actual protein at the previous meal. Lastly, of course make sure not to drink anything for @ least 30 mins after a meal - ideally an hour. As a whole, these guidelines have really helped me, but I do still have bad days where I feel like I am fighting myself all day long. I guess that is just the result of years of food addiction. Well, I hope this helps some. I don't think you have stretched your pouch, my surgeon says this is extremely difficult to do (eating to the point of vomiting on a daily basis for some time). Plus the pouch does naturally relax @ this stage anyway. Good luck sweetie - I am sure you will be just fine. God Bless.
