Six months out and disappointed.....
Six months mark has come and gone. 214 pounds, wow.......five pounds in two months. I try to read posts and get a little more than sad that I have only lost 60 pounds so far. I was told that a small group of WLS patients will NOT lose much. I weigh what could have happened with complications with what hasn't happened with weight loss. I'm happy to be alive but disappointed with my surgery as a whole. I've been excersing like a fool for many months now.....and that is needed to keep the weight off because when I stop.....8-10 pounds comes back on in a week or two. And all that weight is no****er alone.
I eat about a cup of food for each meal, don't graze (rarely anyway) and experience dumping (no vomiting....just pain and nausea) with certain fatty meals. Staying away from sugar has never been a problem for me, I've been a diabetic for 20 years now. Get my protein in and water.
One good thing, on September 29th......it will be one year that I have quit smoking. I should jump and shout, but truthfully....I'm still too damn fat to do much.
I am alive and so many are not, I need to remember that when I get swallowed up in self-pity.....but sometimes, you would like to jump and shout for the weight loss this surgery should bring, after all.....ISN'T THAT THE REASON I HAD IT????

Now Katherine first I'm going to send you a big hug then I'm going to give you just a little shake for thinking this way. Do you realize that IF you are a failure then I am too. AND I certainly don't consider us a failure at all. I, like you, have lost about 60 lbs (scale has been packed as we just have moved to AZ and I haven't weighed in). Sure our weight loss may be slower than others, but we are still losing and are definitely MUCH more healthier than before.
You just can't allow yourself to get into this self-pity mode. Sure once in a while happens to us all, but on a regular basis is not good.
I have a suggestion, why not get a journal ... call it your blessings journal. Each day write down 3 or more things that you feel are blessings in your life. The first ones you write need to be related to the surgery, the extras to any part of your life. No negatives allowed in the journal. Then on the days you are feeling down, go back and read the entries they should brighten your day.
Too often the focus in on the numbers on the scale (yes, I have been quilty of that too) instead of the rest of the positives like being able to move more, feeling better, less or no meds etc. Our success is not determined by the numbers on the scale or the amount of weight we have lost.
OK, now sending you another hug. Congratulations on being a SUCCESS!!! You will achieve your goals because you are doing all the right things. I believe in you and your ability to succeed --- look at the awesome job you've done so far.

I'm sorry you are in the dumps. I feel that way sometimes, but I haven't used my tool to the fullest, and I can only blame myself. I know you have worked yours correctly. I don't think it is over for you, but you will be one of the ones that has to fight for every pound. I will too, if I want to get my remaining weight off. Keep trying and I will try to do better too.
Hugs,

Maybe you need to shake things up and change your eating. Eat some carbs for a few days and then back up to high protien. Your body may be in a plateau.
Katherine,
first thing- you LOST 60 pounds! that in itself is awesome. If you were like me, i could never get past 20 pound weight loss, so I think you are doing very well.
second- some folks are not going to lose quickly no matter how much they wanna. if you come from a family that is heavy that is a factor. that gene is just gonna make you go slower in your weight loss quest. also if you were a yoyo dieter for years- that is something else, your body is used to being in starvation mode. It is fighting you every step, hang in there.
on the plus side this will give you a better chance to tone up without alot of sagginess that a quicker loss would give.
You are doing wonderfully,
kelly
Please do not feel that way. Every pound is something! I know it can be discouraging, but it WAS worth it!
You may be moving slow, but remember, slow and steady is just fine, too.
Also, try to think of it like this. Everyone started at a different weight, a different height. If this were a 5 mile race, and I was at mile 2, someone else was at mile 3 and you were at the starting gate, what do you think would happen? The person with the biggest advantage (3 mile mark) will win, but has not done nearly the amount of work you have.
So.....PLEASE do not compare. You are a success!
Katherine,
Sixty pounds is a wonderful success! Please do not just focus on the scale - how do you feel? How do your clothes fit? These are the things that I focus on when the scale is not moving. When people see me they think I have lost a lot more than I have but I am building lean tissue with exercise so even though I have not lost as much as I would like I have made a lot of body changes. I bet you have as well with all the exercise you are doing. Hope you are feeling better today!

JUST THINK, 10# A MONTH IS AVERAGE LOSING AND IT WILL BE WEIGHT THAT WILL STAY OFF. I AM 6 MONTHS OUT AND I HAVE LOST 56# AND I AM FEELING GREAT! HANG IN THERE, JUST DO WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO AND REMEMBER WHILE YOU ARE EXERCISING YOU ARE MAKING MUSCLES WHICH WEIGH MORE!!! BUT YOU ARE GETTING HEALTHY!!
