6-month check-up; things to remember

Hi All, I had my 6-month check-up yesterday and was reminded of a few things I thought I'd share. 1) Weight loss will be considerably slower now. 2) Be patient with people. Those with overweight friends (or family members) who haven't been able to lose weight are feeling bad, and partners (mostly husbands) aren't sure how to act toward you or what kind of support you need. 3) What I put in my mouth is a decision I make. I am no longer ruled by my appetite or need for food. 4) If you exercise more, it's okay to eat more. (I was feeling guilty about having an extra meal) 5) At this point, I choose my goal weight. My surgeon was happy with my official 79# weight loss and said that if I didn't lose another pound, I was already much healthier than I was pre-op. But at the same time, if I want to be smaller, I just need to continue on my path. 6) People will tell you you're losing too much weight. DON'T BELIEVE THEM! Do what you think is best for your own body. They're just used to seeing the bigger you. 7) Remember that you couldn't do a lot of the things pre-op that you can do now. Go back and look at your life pre-op and see all the positives. I know we all know these things, but I think I needed to hear it again. I felt so much better about my own progress after the appointment, so I think I needed a little confirmation that I was doing well. Take Care! Linn

Linn, thank you so much for sharing those points. I have been coasting by, eating almost anything I want and have managed to continue to lose weight. I keep myself grounded, by referring back to a picture of me at my heaviest. I liked myself then and felt as though life was grand. Things are so much better now in so many ways, ways I could never have predicted. Enjoy your day, and again, thanks. Denise

Thanks Linn so much for that HEALTHY reminder. I've been eating what I want, but my trusty band reminds me with (pb'ing and vomiting) when I'm eating too much, too fast. I'm still struggling with slowing down. I'm down 75 lbs and am so happy. You're right, my husband is getting a little nervous with my change because this weight loss has boosted my self-esteem. A little later, I'll show some before and after pictures. This is the best money I've ever spent and would do it again in a heartbeat! Carolyn
