6 1/2 months out and FEELING (and looking, I'm told) GREAT!!!!
I'm now down 140 lbs and feeling spectacular! Never felt better. The surgery is slowly becoming a distant memory.
Someone asked me the other day: what is the biggest (besides my weight loss) change in my life since the surgery? My answer is that now I eat to live rather than living to eat. I can truly say that about 95% of the time, I really don't miss the ice cream, cakes, candy, cookies or beer. The only difficult times are when my wife makes my favorite meal and I can only have a small portion. I guess some things are tough to change.
Except for the above mentioned items and a few more, I'm eating just about anything that I want. I've become more cognizant of my diet and have gradually found ways and methods to get the proper amounts of nutrients. For instance, beef jerky is a great source of protein however, I caution those with high blood pressure to be aware of its sodium content.
On that point, I used to be on 3 blood pressure medications and I'm now down to a 1/2 dose of one. My physician said that I should be able to stop the last one in about a month or so. My sleep apnea is also a distant memory. My wife is pleased with the fact that my snoring has stopped altogether! The other day I took a trip on an airline and didn't have to buy two seats nor did I need a seat belt extender.
What a great life I've found! For anyone out there who is on the fence about having the surgery, please know that life "on the other side" is wonderful and well worth the initial ordeal.
Awesome Joseph ... congratulations on all of your successes.
My surgeon says no beef, so I haven't tried beef jerky. I use to love the one made by Omaha Steaks ... yummy and soft too not hard like so many.
I'm totally off BP meds and I've taken them for years (2 RX a day). Sleep apnea is gone too. Loving life and all it brings.
Have been doing a number of flights too and no seat belt extender needed either. Can't wait to travel more.
