I am getting Flabbyyyyyyy
Hi Everyone,
I am almost 6 months out on the 23rd and I have lost over 100 pounds and I have gotten flabby. Mostly in my arms!!! I do exercize and swiming to herlp. It doesn't seem to helping much though.
Is anyone else having this problem? I think surgery is in my future to fix the flab. I heard it should be covered by insurance due to resulting from the Gastric Bypass. It's a problem but I am glad I have it. I am waiting to hear more on my Liver Levels. Didn't get much responce from anyone else having this? If you do please let me know.
Does anyone know if that is true about the insurance?
Just wanted to ask thanks for listening.
Good Luck Everyone Jill
Hi Jill,
First let me say great job on losing over 100 pounds before you are even 6 months out.
I have lost 60 pounds since surgery and 80 pounds prior to so I've lost 140 pounds. I can relate on being flabby. I think a tummy tuck will be covered under insurance if you have complaints like rashes, or difficulty exercising with the tummy flapping around. I will also get my breast lift covered because I had breast cancer 6 years ago and haven't had reconstruction yet. If you have problems again with rashes or back pain from breasts I think that would be covered too. I think we're on our own for arms, thighs, etc.
Hope that helps. Paula
Jill,
I think the flabbiness is a wonderful reminder of what we've achieved. Ironically, my arms were the first place I started noticing my flabbiness as I began losing. With continued exercise, the flabbiness is lessening some, but I have no idea how much it will continue to 'snap' back. I know it's lessened over the past few months. I have lost over 100 pounds too, and am making the assumption that reconstructive surgery is in my future too. My surgeon's office actually monitors my skin and will make appropriate referral's for me as the time comes.

Hello Jill,
First I wanted to say congratulations on the weight loss so far!! Second, every insurance is different, so you may want to give your insurance a call and ask a benefits manager what procedures they would cover and what you would need to do to get approval. That is probably your first step. If they say yes to some procedures then you can ask about the criteria you need to meet to get it. Like losing 100 pounds or waiting until your weight has stabilized for a month or something like that. If they say no procedures are covered, then you know that you will have to document every rash, soreness, or inconvenience resulting from the loose skin with your doctor so that you can argue with the insurance and try to get some of it covered. I have been thinking about the same thing as you can tell. But even if you do not have surgery, my mother had her surgery 7 years ago and her loose skin is snapping back into place for the most part, she lost around 180 pounds.
Hope this helps,
Dorothy
Jill,
Congratulations on your weight loss. I, too, have been noticing more flabby/loose skin. Many insurance companies will cover the PS, so don't give up.
One suggestion is to get a copy of your medical records from your surgeon. I know of one person who surgeon put in the hospital records that this person would need PS later on because of the dramatic weight loss and as a result they got approval. Also many insurance companies will pay if medically necessary to help prevent/eliminate rashes, back pains, etc. So get any aches pains or rashes documented by your doctor.
I haven't heard any one having liver problems, but did you check out the library (upper right corner). Do a search using liver, then encymes etc. YOu might find some answers.

Hi Jill
I am in the same boat as you i have lost close to 150 in 5 months and am having alot of trouble being happy do to all the flabby skin. I feel great while dressed but once the clothes come off so does the smile. i am embarassed to exercise in public because the flabby skin slapps just like when i was huge. So i to am looking at early surgery. I know they usually wait alot longer but i dont know how much longer i can take it. Hope it helps to hear you are not alone and if not thanks for listening to me camplaine.
