Comparing ourselves
First, I would like to say congratulations to everyone who ha**** the century club. There have been alot of us recently. Good Job and keep up the good work.
Second, I would like to say that we must have some patience with our bodies. I am learning that myself...not a very patient person. I have seen 2 people (very close) that have gone through this surgery. Yes, the first 6 months are the most dramatic loss, but for the next 12 months both people still continued to lose. One person did practically no exercise, but continued to eat well, she lost 130 pounds and is very thin and is over 1 year out from surgery. The other person ate all the wrong things according to the standards that I have been given by my doctor, but continued to walk and exercise, she lost 180 pounds and looks like a person who has been thin all her life and is over 6 years out from the surgery (she didn't have all the information and support that we do now). They both look healthy and have much more enthusiasm about life than ever, they both say that they would do it over again in a heart beat, even with complications from malabsorption, gall bladder, vericose vein pain, diarrhea, etc. They both also, at some point in their journey, felt that they had failed and were going to gain the weight back. The surgery does work, each body has it's own rate though, so don't ever give up and good luck to everyone!!

Thank you for sharing, Dorothy. It's very encouraging to hear about people who are further out than we and that they are happy and healthy as that is ultimately all that I sought from this surgery.
I may never hit the 100 lb mark (I only had 115 to lose to begin with), but I'm happy with where I am now and anything else is an extra blessing.

Dorothy,
You brought up many valid points, it's so easy to get caught up in comparing our weight loss to other peoples. Each of us gained weight differently and we're all going to lose it differently, the most important things to keep in mind are that we ARE losing it and that we're taking care of ourselves (vitamins EVERY DAY!, protein, water, exercise!) while doing so!
Remember the surgery's our tool, and we all have the fortitude and will power to be successful, don't be discouraged by anyone else! I'm so proud with the changes I've made in myself, and I'm so proud of each of you for the positive changes you've made in your lives! Keep up the good work!

PS....I hit the century club too....I just forgot to mention it before...I've actually lost 115!! I go back to the doctor's on the 25th of this month for my 6 month check up (I'm a bit behind as my 6 month anniversary was on the 2nd), but I'm hoping to lose another 10-15 by then.....it's gonna be hard work on my part...but I've got my goal in my head of where I want to be....and when I make up my mind....I'm a bit determined ;)
Sometimes it is hard NOT to compare ourselves to others. When I get caught up in comparison I try to focus on that each of us is different and I don't know all the specifics for that person. I also try to focus on all the positives that have happened to me since surgery...so many blessings.

I often wonder where I will be in 1 year or in even 15 years. I'm on a "honeymoon" I know. No matter what I do, the weight falls off. I've been more rejuvenated than I have been in a long, long time. Thank you for the information, Dorothy and congratulations on your amazing loss.
Take care all,
Denise
Great post, Dorothy.
Good to be reminded about how others felt and where they are now. For a while I even thought that this was all I was going to lose, but then something happens and the scale moves down again. Little by little.
So proud of you and your loss. I'm really thankful for this February board, and all the wonderful people here who post.
