What non chewable vitamin do you take?
I got sick of chewable vitamins so i bought some "woman's once a day" vitamins today. It was a large vitamin so i broke it in half and took both halves about 10 minutes apart.
I got to wondering what vitamins everyone is taking and if you feel the need to break it before swallowing? Also - do you think its possible to "over-vitamin" yourself? What i mean is - could i take 2 of these vitamins a day and not get too much? Im going to ask my surgeon this same question at my 6 month checkup!
Thanks in advance!!

Hi Rachel, I also take One a day's Womens..I don't have a problem with swallowing it whole.(my Mom always said I had a big mouth). I do take 1 small iron pill and 1 oval biotin pill. I have no problems with them. I don't think you can over vitamin yourself. But what you don't need you body will pass it through your urine. So I think it would be a waste of money. You can ask if you can take other vitamins along with the multi, like b6 or zinc, if you feel like you need to get more. Hope you find the right answers. Good luck...Marion
Hi Marion!
I am not trying to be a know it all but indeed you can over vitamin esp. minerals like zinc and b12...and its actually quite dangerous if you do overdose on them so you have to be careful and follow the recommended dose on the back! Pre-op I was taking all kinds of vitamins and my sister who was a nutrition major told me all the time to be really careful and to try to get most of my vitamins through my food intake (a little hard to do now I think!!!). Anyways, just wanted to inform you b/c I dont want to see anyone get hurt b/c of too many vitamins!!

Hi Rachel. There are some great (but a little more expensive) bariatric chewables online. I take Flintstones, and I know what you mean about getting tired of them.
A word of caution before you depend too much on the non-chewables, do the dissolve test. Put your vitamin into a glass of water to see how long it takes to dissolve. If it does not dissolve in 10 minutes or less, you may be wasting your time and money.
I learned this trick from my surgeon with respect to some other meds that I take.
Another way to tell if the non-chewables are getting you enough nutrition is to have your labs checked 2- 3 months after you have switched.
Best of luck to you!

I can take a Tylenol without breaking, but larger than that I do cut in half.
Yes, you can over do the the vitamins so check with doctor before double dosing on them. Some vitamins are water soluable and what the body doesn't need, it flushes out. Others are fat soluable and are absorbed into the fat in our bodies. It can become toxic and make you very ill IF you get too much of a fat soluble vitamin in your system.
