When to call it quits?

Good evening all. I went to my PCP and my OB/GYN last week. I started taking Lexapro for depression an the patch for birth control. Since starting the new meds, I haven't lost a single pound! I am ready to rip the patch off and quit taking the lexapro. My question is, how long should I give it before discussing other options? kim

You might be on a platue so i would give it a month or so and if you dont start losing any or even if you gain some then i would go back to the docs and talk to them about it... I know alot of depression meds can cause weight gain so maybe talk to him about a different one that wont cause weight gain and the lexapro i dont know anythign about that so you might want to look it up and see what side affects it does have.. well good luck let us know whats going on Paula 331/238

Morning Kim Well, I'm kinda in the same boat as you. My dumb butt had to go out & get myself a boyfriend . . . which put me in a postition where I had to start some form of birth control. After doing what I thought was a substantial amount of research - I went with the Ortho-Evra patch as well. This was Monday 7/26 . . . in 3 days I gained 3lbs!!!! Not only that, but my clothes are tighter as well. I realize how important it is to not get pregnant until 12 months after surgery . . . but I can't take this anymore myself. I didn't come this far to mess it all up now with some b/c. After discussing it with my PCP (& reading the Q&A on this site re: the patch - where you can see that other post ops have had the same problem) - I've decided to take it off & use alternative methods. I wish you all the best . . . & if you find anything else that works without weight gain . . . please let me know. Big Hugs Amanda -72

I have been taking Lexapro for about 5 months now...it hasn't slowed my weight loss down at all. I've still lost 120 lbs since surgery which was 2/5/04....just my 2 cents -Vanessa -120lbs
