Trouble ahead?

I had my surgery on February 24, 2004. I have been doing really well, though I've had my share of "dumpings". But soon you learn what to avoid or how to slow down. I'm down 65 pounds, though I hovered at about 50 for 2 months. I've recently begun having some "attacks". I don't know what else to call them. Very severe nausea - not right after eating, but hours after having eaten. This nausea radiates to my back and is very intense. I only occasionally have the urge to vomit and then it's only dry heaves. Today was the third time in a week that this has happened. The first time last about 30 minutes, the second about 6 hours, and today about 45 minutes. I finally broke down and called my surgeon, not wanting to be a whiner. My surgeon is about 3 hours away - so I just can't hop in my car to visit him. He suggested I contact my family physician and get a gallbladder ultrasound- he says that my problem is either gallstones, bowel obstruction, or abdominal hernia. None of those sound any good to me! Naturally my family physician is on vacation - so I have to see someone else in order to schedule an ultrasound. I can't find out if it's a bowel obstruction until, while I'm having an attack, I have a CT scan. Any words of wisdom? Prayer? Similar problems? Thanks for any response.

Sorry for your pain. The first thing that came to my mind was gallbladder. My neighbor had hers out last year, and she had the same symptoms. I hope you can find out soon. Debbie -60

I agree with Debbie, sounds like gall bladder. I'm no MD, though. Keep us in the loop and take care.

hi Carol, sounds like Gallbladder problems. I am not a doctor but I did sleep at a holiday Inn express last night! Actually I work for a surgeon and we see alot of patients for that. If the pain is bad enough go to the ER. they will do the tests there for you to confirm. they will also have a surgeon take a look at you, he can decide whether it can wait or needs to be done then. Stay away from dairy foods, and NO FAT. the fat is what sets the bile ducts into a spasm. Even after having your gallbladder removed you can still get stones in the bile duct. It not uncommon for us to have patients call us and ask if gallbladders can grow back! Good luck and remember to let your insurance company know you went to the ER (if you go), Also the surgery is not bad, had it done myself. kelly let me know if you have any other questions
