Just wondering if anyone get's a tummy ache from eating cereal? I'm not talking about sugary stuff, I'm talking about healthly cereal...i.e.,Speical K. I thought it might be the milk, so I bought Lactaid...nope still jacks me up. I get a bad stomach ache and cramps from different things at different times. Sometimes yogurt will do it, sometimes not. I try to avoid starches and eat mostly chicken, fish, vegetables, fruit. Sugar free candy is good if you get a craving for something sweet. Just wondering how everyone else is eating.

Hey Susan Right now "food" just doesn't agree with me. I haven't really eaten anything solid in a couple of weeks. It seems like everything I try - just comes back up or causes god awful pain & I have to do it myself. Thats the bad news . . . the good news is . . .I could care less . . . I'm not even hungry. I get plenty of protein in from my protein drinks & I make sure I get my water/fluids in. I went & saw my doctor & thinks that I probably have a stricture; however, he doesn't want to dialate me yet, because my weight loss has been on the slow side - he told me to stick it out until I get to goal weight if I can. (Heres something funny too - I've lost more weight like this . . . everyone tells me that if I don't eat that my body will go into starvation mode - but for some reason thats whats been working for me - how awful is that - lol). As for cereal . . . a month or so ago I tried Fiber One Cereal (was having problems going to the restroom) & yeah - I had some serious wrenching pain in my pouch (w/lactaid soy milk as well). I don't have any intentions of trying it again anytime soon. I hope you have better luck then I do - lol. Big Hugs ~Amanda~ -71

For me, it's any kind of bread. I've had raisin bran and it was fine, but that's the only cold cereal I've tried. I don't have problems with any meats, veggies, or fruit. I do have problems with lots of different potato dishes - they ball up like the breads do. The only thing I really miss is toast. Linn

My surgeon says NO to beef, coconut, nuts (and I'm sure more things too but can remember off the top of my head). I have problems with pork tenderloin (even if cooked in the slow cooker). Fish, chicken, turkey all go down well as does shrimp and lobster. I can eat bread but don't eat a lot, never more than 1/2 slice in a day if that. I love salads and do well with them, but stay away from tomatoes, pickles, boccoli, cauliflower as they are harder to digest because of the skins. I only have eaten a bite of low carb cereal and it was so awful I dumped it (think it was the Special K one). If you are lactose intolerant, Lactaid milk can still be a problem. You might try soy or rice milk and see if that makes a difference. Also many cereals are high fiber and your tummy could of been rebelling against that aspect. I try not to do the sugar free candies --- those sugar alcohols are killers to me. I do like Dreyers no sugar added ice cream made with splenda but use that for a treat. Mary 305/202/125??

Pork is the only meat that I don't tolerate well. I've been lactose intolerant for about 5 years, and I still have trouble with that. I have to say I have been very fortunate. I've tolerated everything else. Sugars do make me feel hot and shakey (just a bit). I usually have 1 slice of bread a day. I can eat it plain or tosted. Oh, yeah, eggs don't sit well on my stomach. They hit like a brick. Debbie -59

I haven't tried cereal yet...just seems like a waste of carbs that I'm not ready to give up. I know I'm a little different, but chicken about kills me unless I eat VERY, VERY slowly. No problems with beef of any kind (even grilled steak) so long as I cut it in very thin slices. Pork is inconsistent..sometime good, sometimes not. All seafood goes down great. No problems with breads or potatoes, but I try to keep them limited to once a day. Occasionally, something I've eaten often will throw me a curve ball. I had some watermelon Tuesday night and had the worst dumping episode yet and wound up lying nauseous on the bathroom floor for about 30 minutes. Generally, I don't have a problem with watermelon at all, so that makes me wonder if sometimes it isn't a combination of foods that can trigger something. Julie -75; 30 more to goal

For me I think my problem is the milk too. Pre-Op I would just drink a glass a day. I love milk but now I get alot of gas when I drink it. That is my problem the milk I get severe gas pains. I try to avoid breads because I think it is a waste of pouch space. If I eat a sandwich I cut off most of the bread and eat whatever is inside. I don't do pizza well at all, I think I only tried it once one of the Lean Cuisine pizza's and was lying on my desk for about an hour. The only ice cream that I have done were the sugar free Klondike bars and they are gooooooooood. I had no problems with them. I haven't had problems with meat either, if it is too dry then I will dip it in something. Oh yeah and don't let me forget I don't eat beans anymore because they give me a laxative effect. I don't know if it is good or bad...but so far (excluding the first 3/4 weeks) nothing has made me sick as far as throwing up. Recently I ate 4 brazil nuts (which I have eaten since surgery). I must have eaten them too fast because i got the stomach cramping and became very very sleepy. Layed down in my boss' office for about 15 minutes, fell asleep, and felt fine when i woke up. That is the worst I have had. Occasionally when i eat too fast I get the sleepy thing but nothing else. I haven't really tempted too many boundaries though. I did try popcorn with butter on it at the movies and did fine. Had it once haven't wanted it since then. I haven't had a craving for much of anything so haven't tried it. No sugars, breads, pastas, taters. My food program is very dull!!hahahaha. Protein drinks, Meat/seafood/poultry, salad or other raw or steamed veggies and watermelon occasionally or pork rinds for snack. SEEEEE I told you it was boring Kelly -94
