Medic-Alert Bracelet

I recall a little while ago a discussion on our board about some of us having medic-alert bracelets that read something like, "Gastric Bypass Surgery - No N.G. Tube". While I have not spoken to my doctor about this, I plan to at my upcoming 6 month appointment. I have learned that there is a site, www.laurenshope.com that sells beautiful medic alert bracelets. Lauren was featured on Oprah. Happy Shopping. How many of you have medic-alert bracelets? Denise

Morning Denise I have a medic alert bracelet; however, I have to admit that I never wear the thing (I know - whats the point - lol). I was trying to make sure that I had everything "together" & ordered it . . . but especially after speaking with some of my local paramedics I found out that it really isn't necessary as they don't even use NG Tubes. Don't get me wrong - I still think that they are a great idea especially if you have allergies or other medical conditions. I bought mine from makemethis.com (just add the www). I think I paid a whole $7 for mine & that included shipping (granted it wasn't as pretty but it served the purpose). Big Hugs Amanda -71

I have one and I love it! I saw laurenshope and then compared it to "Creative Medical ID" on Ebay. I liked the selection on ebay better. Here is their info: http://stores.ebay.com/Creative-Medical-ID_W0QQsspagenameZl2QQtZkm Here is a picture of the bracelet I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3836&item=4112341958#ebayphotohosting I bought the sterling silver finish. My bracelet says: GASTRIC BYPASS NO NG TUBE W/O SCOPE SUGAR INTOLLERANT (phone number of surgeon) I love it!

I have worn one 24 hours a day for years ... I have drug allergies and so for me it was a must have. I am registered with Medic Alert Foundation ( medicalert.com ), and altho there is a yearly fee (I think $15 or $20) it is well worth it. They have an oveview of all my health issues, medication I take, name and phone number of my doctor, emergency contact name & #. The bracelet I wear has an 800 number on it, my membership # and a brief overview (what I wanted written on it). Be careful with some of the beaded medic alert bracelets as they may not hold up in water long term or wearing 24 hours a day. Medic Alert Foundation has all kinds of styles and prices on their bracelets, necklaces etc. Remember it is not just the medics arriving on the scene but the hospital emergency room staff that use this information. I like the idea that they would have not only Hal's name & phone number but my physician's too in an emergency. Mary

Hello everyone. Can someone tell me what a NG tube is and what it is used for? Is this something I need to be concerned about? Laurie

I wear my ID bracelet 24/7. There is a problem with the fancy beaded ones that do not look like a med alert bracelet...in an emergency, the EMT's and doctors may think they're just jewelry and not even read them. Mine looks like what it is but I splurged on a more expensive gold one...didn't want to wear stainless steel forever. Cheers, Rusty

NG stands for Nasal-Gastric, I think...a tube that feeds you via going through your nose to your stomach. I'm no MD, but I think that's it.
