Why do some people cut their hair short when it's falling out? Doesn't that make it more noticeable?? I have long hair with bangs, and I have noticed the thinning in my bangs the most, and I assume that's because they are short? Not sure.... xeni wls Carolyn in AZ RNY LAP 2/18/04 423/319/150 - 104 lbs in 5 months - forever!!

Carolyn, congratulations on your weight loss. Your picture is amazing. I need to update my photo as well. How did you do the picture within a picture? Did you do it and send it in that way or did OH do it for you? Anyway, I am still loosing my hair. Many, many strands came out in the shower this morning. I have pretty thick hair. I'm the only one who notices the loss. My husband and daughter find it all over the house, so they notice too. I would think that people with thin hair to begin with find the hair loss more noticable, naturally. I would also think that a shorter hair cut would also accentuate the thinning. All I do know is that my hair is significantly thinner than it was 2 months ago and i'm still loosing it. I hope it stops soon.

Thanks for the nice compliment Denise! I edited my picture in Photoshop and sent it to OH. I think they made changes to it though so if I were you, I'd send it directly to them. I just got out of the shower right now and was in there for a good 40 minutes trying to wash, condition and comb my hair with a pick. I think more hair came out this morning than ever had before! Cutting it short like the other posts to this thread have explained makes sense now. PLUS, I think it might be easier to manage - less tangles with shorter hair. I haven't had short hair since grade school so I'm nervous to do it, but I think I'm going to do it this weekend! At least cut it a bit above my shoulders. If I survived the knife of RNY, I can survive the hairdressers scissors! LOL. Thanks for the input everyone!

I think I can answer this. I am one of those unfortunte ones who started out with thin fine hair. When your hair is long, it weighs more and it hangs closer to the head. When you cut it shorter, it lightens up and you have more body and fullness. I think that is why everyone cuts their hair. Besides, it grows back. I had mine cut shorter the other day and it gives it more fullness. Also layering your hair gives fullness too. Hope this helped some. Joanne

I was just about to post something about hair loss. Mine started out thin and long. It would be alot easier to manage if it were shorter, everytime I wash and comb my hair all this hair comes out. I should be bald by now. I just hope that it stops shedding soon. I want my hair back.

I agree w/ Joanne....shorter hair weighs less, so it looks fuller. I have always had baby fine, thin hair (I'm scared of going BALD right now!!) so I have always kept it fairly short. But 2 days before surgery I went & got a cute, short hair cut and I intend to keep it that way until it stops falling out!! Sherri C 242/175/140 -67 RNY 2/16/04

i got my hair cut quite short. fortunately i have (had?) thick hair, but i've definitely lost a lot. i use a gel from pantene -- it "volumizes" and it does work. i'm so looking forward to having more hair!
