Were you always overweight, even as a child OR was your weight gain as an adult? I have always been overweight. I have no concept of what it feels like to be a normal weight. In the 5th grade I weighed 158, when I graduated from high school 206 .... so this is uncharted territory as an adult for me. Mary

I ahev ALWAYS been overweight. I am, my mom and dad were, my sister and brother, grandparents on both sides of the family. it is down the line in my family. Maybe that is why I can't see myself thinner. No one in my family has EVER been thin. Joanne

In pictures, I was thin until I was about age 5-6; I had two surgeries in two summers in a row that severely curtailed my being outside and/or being active, and I think that had something to do with it, as my brother and sister both are thin as rails. Of course, that may just be an excuse too After that point, I was always 'heavy'/'stocky', whatever words you want to use. I did play football my freshman year in high school and managed to get down to a reasonable weight for my age, but then was back up not long after that. I also managed to lose weight my freshman year in college, and was about at where my goal is now (165) when I was 19... again, for a short time. The funny thing is that even though I've had problems fitting into a restaurant booth for about 8 years now, I've never really had a 'fat' self-image... for some reason, my self-image is stuck back when I was in high school or as a freshman in college. Not sure why... Maybe that's where I was most physically comfortable with my size, so that's where my mind keeps me... /shrug Mind is a funny thing.

Nope...I was 117 lbs when I got married 18 yrs ago...I gained about 20-30 lbs with each of my 3 kids, then another 20 or so after a hysterectomy. I think that is why I was SO motivated to get this surgery! I REMEMBER what it's like to be a hottie ......well, I don't know if I will ever be a HOTTIE again, but I sure will (and DO) look so much better than I did just a few short months ago!!! Great question Mary. Yeah, I was always overweight too. I never thought I was until I was in junior high (weighed 155) and couldn't believe it! I think it was the first time I was on a scale. But looking back on old pictures, I was pretty plump. I was up to 185ish at one point in high school, but graduated at 160. It's been mostly up since then - until now. I also have a hard time picturing myself thin, and am very dubious about reaching my 130# goal, but will continue to keep trying. Surgeon thinks I can do it, so I'll try to believe him. I'm now wearing the smallest sizes I had left in my dresser, so it's all downhill from here. Going to need to actually buy some new clothes soon. I'm now about 10# above what I was when I graduated. Hi Mary. The answer to that question is yes. I have always been overweight, even as a child in elementary school. I was wearing a size 24 dress when I graduated from high school. I don't know what normal weight is like, but I sure plan to find out. This wls is opening doors for me, new experiences, new thoughts of a better life, and a healthier life along with it. I am so happy for this tool.

Mary, I have been fat for as long as I can remember. I know my mom used to fuss at me about eating and my weight when I was very young (maybe 7). I was heavy but not morbidly obese until about age 22-23 and stayed there until my surgery. I have lost 76 pounds in the 4 1/2 months since and couldn't be happier! Liz
