Protein Bars (again!)
I know we have covered this before, but what protein bars do you eat?
I havent eaten them, but wanted to try something, so i was looking yesterday at the store. I was surprised how many carbs are in those suckers!!!
I bought a few different brands, a U-Turn (because mary recommends those!) and a few others. The Uturn was good, but has alot of carbs. I was only able to eat 1/3 of the bar last night (1.4 oz bar)
Im hoping to find something thats good, high in protein, low in carbs and sugar, that doesnt upset me stomache ;) Im not asking too much, right?? LOL

I've tried dozens...the only ones I really like are the Slim Whey which I get from Susan Maria (but someone on the main board found them at Walmart) and the All-in-One, Lemon bar made by Dexatrim, I think. They're both pretty good, but you're right; they're high in carbs. Doesn't seem to have much effect on my weight though, so I use them when I'm starving to keep me from making a worse choice.

There are several protein bars that I eat, but I try to look for the kinds that have the most protein.
There are a couple of EAS Advant bars...the Chocolate Cream Pie and the Cookies & Cream. They are both 26 grams of protein, 220 calories and have 18 grams of carbs. You can get them at Walmart or Sam's Club (larger qty).
Detours are another good one (like a candy bar) and have 15 grams of protein and 14 grams of carbs and are 170 calories.
I tired a new breakfast bar called Momentum in Double Chocolate and it was pretty good too. Dont have the information on that one though.
I have never done and or will do the shake thing. I cannot drink it. With a protein bar a day plus the normal protein I eat (meat, cheese, eggs, seafood) I get in my protein or real close to it.
I just need to get all my water in ~ugh
I'm a big fan of the Genisoy Low Carb Crunch Bars (chocolate chip). I get them at GNC (by the case - lol). I also love the slim whey bars too . . . most of the time - they are just the right size. I have at least 1 bar a day . . . usually for breakfast.
My rule of thumb so far has been . . . crunchy bar = yummy . . . chewy bar = yuck! (there are a couple of exceptions).

Rachel,
I buy the small version of the U-Turn bars (the ones that are 150 calories -- the large bars are 300 calories) and use them as a meal replacement. They are really the only ones I truly like and can easily digest. My surgeon says no nuts, no coconut so that rules out so many for me. Then I'm super sensitive to sugar alcohols so that rules out most of the remaining ones. I eat very few carbs so don't worry about the ones in the bars for me.
I hope you find some that you like and will work for you. Be careful of the sugar alcohols ... they can cause gas, gas pains, and have a laxative effect.
