Hi everyone. I'm 4 months out today and I'm still having trouble with beef and chicken and pork. I am trying to get enough protein. I'm okay with eggs and cheese and peanut butter. I'd like some opinions abouts nuts. Are they okay in moderation? Also are some better than others? I probably over think what I eat but I'm pretty obsessed with it! Thanks for listening. Linda -59

Hi Linda, I was just asking the same question at my support meeting. I found that I can eat peanuts in the shell with no problem.I went and bought some sunflower seeds no shell and my feet were swollen for a few days. When I asked about them she told me that she thinks I am not far enough out yet, I was 4 months out. Well I thought I chewed them up good enough she still made me feel like I should not eat them. I felt like they were good for me in the protine part because I too have a hard time with chicken and turkey. Not beef and i have not tried pork too much except hot dogs. I told her I will not eat then till mabye 6 months out. I felt I was ok with them. No pain no getting stuck so there fore I will have them again I will just wait. Good luck to you. Hope it works out.Marion

Thanks Marion I get tired of eating the same thing all the time and want something that's protein. Crunchy things go down easier for me so I thought peanuts etc. might be okay. I appreciate your input. Have a great weekend! Linda -59

Linda, I have been eating nuts (cashews, peanuts and pistachios) for amost 4 weeks now. I also was having a problem with getting the protein in. The drinks make me queasy and I don't eat eggs. So, I startd on cashews. I haven't had a problem. Noelle

Hi Linda, I have been eating nuts since I was about 8 weeks out. They haven't given me any trouble. Be sure to chew them well. I eat a handful of pistachios or dry roasted peanuts everyday. They help curb my appetite. Debbie -56 229/173/140-130?

Thanks for the replies. Sure sounds like they don't bother anyone. Before surgery I used to like the creamier kinds of food like ice-cream and pudding and macaroni and cheese. Now dry crunchy food is more appealing and goes down easier. Enjoy the remainder of the weekend. Linda -59

Linda, My surgeon says absolutely no nuts. The concern is that we will not chew them well enough and the stoma will get blocked. So if you try them, eat just a few and chew really well. If they get stuck I've heard it can be quite painful. Pork is hard for me to digest. Dr. says no beef so I do chicken, shrimp, salmon, other fish, crab, imitation crab, edaname (soy beans - very good hot or cold), cheese, protein bars. Mary

Hi Linda, Well for me sunflower seeds do the trick. They curb my appetite, and help me on the days I'm just not hungry at all. And they are a good source of protein. Plus, it also helps me drink more water. I also eat peanuts and pistachio nuts........very good. Just remember to chew, chew, chew!!! Even with the meat thing, chew, chew, chew, before it goes down, makes sure it is pulverised!! It really works for me with everything I eat. I have no problem with any meats at all. I did in the beginning, but now that I got the chewing down, I am great!!! Hope this helps!! Tracie - 81 lbs
