Honest Truth about Carbs..
Hey Julie,
i wanted to talk about this too. See my situation is strange. I did great for 2 weeks after surgery. Then all H&%$ broke loose. I had uncontrollable queasyness for 6 weeks and was out of work. I was told by MY surgeon that if it stayed down...eat it. I guess maybe I am slow but I don't understand how to do the whole counting carbs or calories thing. Something that was in our literature for after surgery says that we didn't have the is surgery just to be on a diet for the rest of our lives. I have kinda taken that to heart. I will give you an example by what I ate today,
Breakfast:
Left-Over 1/4 piece grilled steak ribeye
3 tablespoons of cheesy hashbrown
Snack:
Water
Lunch:
The insides out of an eggroll
1/2 beef and boroclli (sp?)
Snack:
Water
Dinner
1/4 Country fried steak
4 bites black eyed peas
1/2 fried freen tomato
and I STILL don't know if I am doing this all right or not. I sometimes feel very alone. Then I read on here and you all are having the same issues that I am.
P.S. I know this is your post but if you have any suggestions to me PLEASE let me know

Noelle,
I think you're doing AWESOME for someone who claims not to understand how to eat! I thought what you posted looked excellent and wish I could say that always ate that well. You've got protein, veggies, and not alot of white carbs so I'd say you're right on track according to what I've been told to eat.
I understand the not wanting to diet forever mentality...I don't mind being aware of what I'm eating and making better choices, but I'm glad to be able to eat with my family, whatever my family is eating. I'm just so much more aware of portion size than I used to be.
I'm so glad you find comfort in this board, by reading the all of us are experiencing the same kinds of questions, doubts, situations, choices, celebrations, etc. Isolation can be defeating, but together? We're awesome!
Julie
Gotta jump on the wagon...I too eat more carbs than I probably should. The only time I have problems is when I dont eat enough protein at breakfast I get hungry like I used to. But when I eat carbs I try to make sure they have a lot of fiber in them so at least its going to good use. but its nothing like it used to be! and there are days when I think its too much (like today) but then there are other days when its great!!

Julie,
I am glad you posted this. I worry that I eat too much or not the right combination of stuff all the time. I try to hit the protein stuff as much as possible but sometimes I just need some veggies. I have not really tracked my calorie intake more focused on the grams of protein at this point (I had a hard time getting even 30 grams in at first so now I am overly focused ) I use milk and cheese for protein and make fruit smoothies several times a week with strawberries/blackberries/blueberries and 1/2 banana. I have lost 63 pounds total since surgery on 2/27/04 and feel great. I think everyone has to find what works for them.
