Honest Truth about Carbs..
Okay, I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but I'm going to be honest and see if I'm the only one out there who eats like this.
I eat alot of protein, but I eat everything else too. I watch carbs, but don't eliminate them and some days are much higher than others. Gosh! Even a cup of milk with my unjury protein has 15 carbs and an All-in-One protein bar has 20 carbs! How do you avoid them altogether? I can't begin to imagine staying under 30 and thankfully, my dietician didn't say anything about needing to avoid them.
I went back on Fitday for the past 2 weeks and this is what I'm eating.
Calories - Fat - Carbs - Protein
829 - 34 - 71 - 65
819 - 29 - 48 - 91
1105 - 49 - 64 - 103
1062 - 40 - 116 - 67
1204 - 59 - 84 - 117
997 - 54 - 78 - 49
1130 - 55 - 73 - 90
974 - 41 - 70 - 83
1128 - 55 - 52 - 105
974 - 56 - 71 - 49
1065 - 54 - 89 - 77
1047 - 41 - 91 - 85
773 - 46 - 27 - 62
Can't explain it and don't know why it's working for me when so many others are not eating carbs AT ALL! Why do you think there's such a difference between dieticians and surgeons and their recommendations?
Julie
-66 lbs.
Thanks, Joanne. I didn't REALLY expect you guys to "flame"...no one here is like that, but I did know that it's kind of a controversial topic of conversation.
I just really wanted to know what everyone else was doing. I WANT to do this right, but I want to be real too and make it something I can do for the rest of my life.
And there are carbs in EVERYTHING other than meat...
((hugs)))

I watch my carbs. I don't even drink milk anymore and if I do it is the carb countdown milk. I don't eat breads, pastas, rice, potatoes, bananas (on occasion I will have half), I am trying very hard and can usually keep my carbs to about 35. What has it gotten me? Over a month long plateau. But I am scared ****less to eat them. One, because they are a trigger food, and two, cause I am afraid of gaining back the weight.
Hey Julie I am soooooo happy that you posted this! I've been feeling this way for quite awhile. The thing with me is . . . I can honestly say that I've been doing really good - getting in all of my protein first & generally not eating any "bad stuff". However, I do eat stuff like beans, lentils, split pea soup, protein bars, etc & those carbs really add up. But I'm thinking . . . aren't I eating "healthy"?? I mean before - I would've been chowing down on a bowl of pasta or something (which I also haven't even tried post op). But whenever I get upset because my weight loss is so slow - everyone tells me to "watch my carbs". The only way that I can imagine getting in under 30 grams a day is to eat nothing but meat . . . otherwise it seems so impossible to me too. I've been feeling so awful about not being able to do this. . .

I completely understand. I AM eating carbs, but soooooooo much less than before and while I was afraid it would trigger more cravings, it has not and I find I'm satisfied with just a bite or two and I don't feel deprived at all. I am eating healthier and making better choices and that makes me feel good.
And I think your weight loss is completely normal if you look at the rest of us...not slow. I think you're doing great!

I'm guilty of eating carbs, but you have lost at a quicker pace than I have. I think you are exercising too though.
I'm going to be honest here and this is what I ate today.
breakfast:
1 ruddy's farm biscuit with cheddar cheese (these are the ones that come 2 to a pkg... I ate one
about 1 hr. later, one small handful of cheerios
lunch:
squash casserole- made with cheese, onion, squash probably 1/2 to 2/3 cup.
about 1hr later 1 chicken tenderloin
supper:
1 taco from local mexican restuarant
Oh, I did have one fudge stripped cookie.
Tell me where the protien is today? I'm pre menstural, and craving carbs.
I'll do better tomorrow.
I probably need to cut back on my carbs.

My surgeon is one who says stick with protein only but at 3 months I was told I could have a little bit of green veggies. My understanding is that he believes the window of opportunity to lose the most weight the easiest is between 12-18 months. I know I have been eating more carbs lately and my weight loss has slowed, but I am not totally unhappy with 80 pounds gone (as of this AM)! I also noticed the more carbs I have, the more I want and the hungrier I feel. I also feel more sluggish when I have more carbs. Overall, I am eating healthier than I have before, but I do want to limit my carbs to lose as much as I can while it is easy.
Hi Julie,
My nutritionist has told me that this is not the Adkins Diet in any way. Carbs are necessary to keep up all of the levels. I am a little over 4 months and have lost about 88 lbs. I eat carbs at every meal, but in very small portions. Ex. 1/2 slice of low calorie bread, 1/4 cup pasta. I was told that they are essential but not to overdo.
I guess every doctor is different but that is what my doctor's philosophy is and it has been working. Everyone is different and if it works for you, keep on keeping on.
Have a great day and don't be so hard on yourself.
