low carb products
I have been reading the main board posts regarding flax seed so today i visited the local health food store. Picked some of that up and right now am eating some in my pintos and cheese from taco bell. Hey i figure anything that will help my bowels, hair, and skin i am all for it!
while i was there i noticed a huge section that was low carb and sugar free. I picked up Low carb deli rolls by O'so Lo. here is the nutrition scoop: 13 carbs but only 3.8 of the net carbs, 9 gr of dietary fiber, 0 sugar, and 15 grams of protein in one roll. Now granted probably none of us could eat the whole roll at one sitting but dang!!!! I was impressed. I took a bite of one and it tasted good. a little spongy but definately not a bad taste. I figure i can doctor that puppy up with some deli meat and veggies and it would be wonderful! I also picked up a sample of Keto brand Banana Nut hot cereal. It says carbs are 14 with 5 net carbs, 9 gr fiber, 0 sugar and 16 grams of protein in one serving!! There were other items I was interested in but they are a little pricey. However, i will pay for it if i like the taste and gives me a little variety.
Has anyone else tried either of these products or any other products by O'so Lo or Keto?

Biggest thing to watch in the lowcarb stuff is all the damnitol in there (damnitol = result of eating too much sorbitol, malitol, lactitol, etc --> nasty lower GI loose bowel effects). A little is okay, but too much of those sugar alcohols really gets to me...
Other than that, I think the low carb stuff generally is pretty good and gives some nice flavor without all the calories and/or sugar.

What is delish is Flax-O-Meal granola. It is expensive but so worth it if you only have 1/4 cup a day. I bought the cinnamon nut. it is crunchy but breaks apart very will. Not like rocks. They also have a cherry one which I haven't tried. I got it at Vitamin World in a mall and it was 7.99 for a bag. So good though. I added some nuts to it and dried fruit. I have this in my yogurt.
Be careful with the "net-carb" thing. The dietitian told us to count all carbs not just net carbs as they all affect our systems.
I did try Keto pasta as a pre-op. It was OK but definitely could not be eaten by itself. I made spaghetti type sauce for it. Would I buy it again... maybe.
So many of the low carb products are super high in fat and often calories too. I've definitely learned to read labels.
