Slow Weight Loss
Hello everyone. I had my surgery on Feb 27th and started at 277 lbs. I am now 232, that is only 45 lbs for 3 months. I read the board every day, and according to the charts I was supposed to have lost 66 lbs. I am very upset about this. The other factor that plays into this is I just dont want to eat. I have no desire to eat. I drink lots of water but food --the thought of it makes me ill. So I dont eat right. Anyone have any idea's. I am also sick of eating the same old thing day after day!

Hi Laurie! If I paid attention to all those "should be losing" ads, I would be pulling my hair out now. I know what you mean about not wanting to eat, but we must do what we must do. Try to get in as much of your protein as possible. I try to make sure I get in atleast one protein shake each day. I snack on cheese and crackers or peanut butter. Anything with protein and low carbs. I know things seem kind of bland, but there are alot of different recipes given out on the boards. I eat alot of chicken, fish, cottage cheese, turkey, and salad with turkey breast or turkey ham in it. You know what you like and somehow you have to figure out a way to tempt your tastebuds. Good luck! Don't worry about the weight loss. When you get in those proteins and tha****er, it will come off so quickly you won't know what happened.

Laurie - we had surgery the same day. I went from 270/219 (as of today). Thats a 51 lb loss. I felt like i was loosing too slow but im realising that its very average to loose 1.5-2 lbs a week.
I have noticed that the more fluids and protein i get, the more i loose. Also, i wasnt excersizing. Shame on me, yes. But ive started walking 4-5 times a week and thats making me feel better and stick the lost lbs quicker (the scale isnt going back and forth like it did before)
I do understand being discouraged. Im sure we have all been there, done that since our surgeries. Hang in there hon!!

Laurie, Today is my 3 month anniversary and I've lost 52 pounds (as of a few days ago). I'm pleased with my weight loss. I just can't worry about what charts says I "should" have lost. I'm very glad that I had the surgery. I do understand how you feel about food though. I feel the same way. I don't care about eating either. I hate protein shakes. I get my protein from cheese and peanut butter mostly. Beef and chicken and pork don't agree with me. I can eat eggs sometimes. I can eat a bit of beef in chili but that's it. I know this surgery is helping me though and I will eventually get to my goal. I think you should be proud of your 45 pound loss! If there weren't any charts and nothing to compare your loss to--then wouldn't you be happier with the loss? I hope that made sense. Hang in there Laurie. I know the food thing is difficult but you are losing and doing well.

I know what u r feeling i'm the same way As for food i THINK i want to eat but sometimes just after a few bites I'm so full
I don't think that i am eating enough & thats why the weight is soooo slow to come off
I also eat the same foods every day
I really think that the body gets used to the same thing & we won't lose what we want to....
Deb -53lbs wi**** was a whole lot more !!!!!
Laurie,
Food doesn't have the same appeal to me that it did before surgery. Before surgery I lived to eat, now I eat to live. Amazing how we can change our mind's thinking on things.
My surgeon believes in a 2 to 3 lb weight loss average per week after surgery. So at 12 weeks out, you are above the average he sets for his patients. As of today I've lost 35 lbs since surgery (total of 85.5 lbs since last year) and I'm 13 weeks out tomorrow. I fall within the average too that he has set.
I've stopped looking at the charts that tell us what we should be losing, I listen to my doctor and my body. Yes, it is hard at times to know others are losing faster than I am. But I know with each lb that I lose that I am a success (and so are you!!!).
If food is a real issue for you, try to do protein shakes to fill in. Some of the nectar drinks are really good (I love apple nectar and it tastes like apple juice so easy to drink --- just that is bright green). I have protein bars at all times in the house, also sliced cheese and cottage cheese. I have found that I love chicken tacos, shrimp tacos, and fish tacos so when eating is bad that day I can usually convince myself to get one of them and eat it (normally just the insides, not the shell). Moisture in food is a major issue and a must for me to be able to enjoy the item. If something is dry, a couple bites is all I can do.
Just an FYI ... obesityhelp.com doesn't want us to post our e-mail addresses or other personal information on the boards. At the bottom of each person's post, there is a link that says e-mail. If we click on that it will allow an e-mail to be sent to the person without revealing their address. Then if they respond to the e-mail, you will have their e-mail address. Some messages are deleted by the monitors of the boards when e-mail address, phone numbers etc are put in messages.

I also still have problems eating. I never know what I want, and I don't usually want what I've planned. Unfortunately, that sends me to the store more often than I would like.
Is there something that you enjoy? I like seafood, and when nothing else sounds good I often will eat some shrimp or smoked salmon. I also go through stages. I used to only want cottage cheese, and now I can't stand the thought of eating it. I don't really like yogurt, but now am truly enjoying the carb control ones since they aren't as tart. All I can suggest is that you try something new relatively often. It helps keep from getting bored with your food. I can't eat the same thing twice in a row, so I require lots of options. Just as a qualifier, I don't have trouble eating meats, so I can vary those a lot as well.
