I made it to the 50lb. club, but.....
I had a terrible dumping experience yesterday. I have been able to eat sugar of any kind since my surgery. I'm talking frosting from a birthday cake, candy, bread, chips. Yesterday, my neighbor brought a piece of homemade chocolate pie over. I ate half a piece of it and did fine. I took two sudafed sinus gel caps about 30 minutes later, and my stomach immediately started cramping, and I had all the signs. I was sweating, cramping, and tried to vomit, but only mucus came up. I was sick for over an hour. I had to call my sister to come over and help me with the daycare children. This is more than you want to know, but I had to give myself an enema, so that I could go to the bathroom, and once I did that I was able to go, and had instant relief. I felt like I had cotton mouth all evening, and still do some today. I didn't even eat last night. I just drank.
So, I'm staying away from sugar, and sudafed. I did not mention that I have a UTI and started yesterday as well. It was a horrible day.
The reason I put a *but* behind the 50lb. club in my title, was that I don't know if the 2lbs I lost overnight will come back when I resume eating. Oh, well, it was nice to be in a new set of numbers this morning.

Sorry about the dumping..it's no fun is it? I'll ask my son (pharmacist) about the Sudafed and see what he says. He has told me a couple of things to avoid since he thought I might have trouble absorbing them; time release anything is a no-no, he said.
Cranberries are great for UTI's. Snapple has a wonderful new cranberry raspberry drink w/ only 10 calories and 2 sugars, or you might try cranberry pills, which can be bought over the counter at the local pharmacy. My daughter suffers with UTI's frequently and the cranberry pills clear it up almost overnight. My son explained to me why it works; write me personally if you want the whole medical explanation.
Good luck on the weight loss.....I'm betting you'll keep the weight off. You were due a loss anyway.
Hope today is a better day!

I appreciate all your advice. I started taking Bactrim. My PCP prescribed it for me. Where would I find the cranberry pills. I might need to keep those on hand. This is my second UTI since surgery.
The Sudafed is called Maximum Strength Non-Drying Sinus. It is for sinus pressure, sinus drainage, nasal and sinus drainage. The inactive ingredients are FD&C blue no.1, gelatin, glycerin, polyethylene glycol 400, providone, proplyelen glycol and sorbitol. Are glycol and sorbitol sugars?
I feel much better today. I don't want to experience that again. Good thing I was at home.

BTW you are doing so good with your weight loss. Your before and current pictures are incredible.
Deb,
Congrats on the -50! sorry about being sick. i have yet to experience what you described but it sounds horid! i am taking sudafed this week also for a chest head cold. it makes me feel better though a little yucky tummy in the morning til i eat something and it makes me very thirsty!
i am still waiting to hear back from my surgeons office about the horse pills (calcium citrate) we were talking about yesterday. i choked 6 of them down by 4:00 but they make me completely not hungry and i know i need to eat.
GNC carries cranberry pills. I really like the ones they carry as they don't have any additives in them.
Hal's doctor told him cranberry juice or pills daily to help prevent Kidney stones. I take them occassionally if I think I may be getting a UTI. They are great.
They are in capsule form.
Hope you feel better soon and so sorry to hear about your experience with dumping.

Yikes Debbie! That sounds like an awful experience. I'm so sorry you had to endure that. I think the sudafed had something to do with it. Hope that UTI gets better soon. At least we can have cranberry juice without worrying about it. Well, I could if I liked it. I drank so much of it after surgery, I really couldn't stand it unless I needed it to make myself better.
Congratulations on your new decade... it'll stay off, I'm sure of it!
