I am wondering if anyone has experienced a different period since surgery. I am confused. I had to stop taking my birth control pill (which I take for birth control) two weeks before sugery. That meant I had to wait until I got my period again to start the next pill pack. During all of this, my prescription coverage changed. I am on a new brand of pill, TRINESSA. The biggest difference with my period is that I bleed for more days and the flow is heavier. History: have been regular all my life, with mild cramping and "normal" flow with little clotting. Sorry to be so graphic. (guys, you've been warned) Have a glorious day. Denise

Morning Denise I was on b/c pre-op as well, & stopped taking it a few weeks before surgery because I didn't want to increase my chances with a blood clot (surgeon didn't seem to concerned though). I had just started taking them around November, so my body was just getting used to them. Prior to that, I wouldn't have periods except 2-3 times a year - which didn't bother me any , but seemed to worry my docs . . . Since surgery, my doc told me that I can start taking them again; however, from what I've read, I won't be absorbing them the same anyways (did you hear the same??). But since surgery I've actually been having my period pretty regulary . . . I mean it's not every 28 days, but at least once a month, which is more normal then before. I've also noticed that I get a really bad headache & cramps - which stinks, because the meds I took pre-op to get rid of them I can't take anymore - so I just have to "ride things out" so to speak. I know there are other methods of b/c out there (ie: patch, iud, depo, etc) but there just seems to be too many side effects with them (weight gain, moodiness) all of which I sure don't need right now So, to answer your question (in a really long way - sorry) yes, I have noticed a difference since surgery & I suppose mine has been in a positive way. I sure hope yours gets better though . . . & if you find a good solution for the cramping - please share!!!! Amanda -46

I stopped taking the pill before surgery to reduce the chance of clotting. I haven't resumed it yet. The surgery threw my cycle off by 2 weeks, but it's back regular now. Difference is, now, I have 3 day periods where before, I had 5. I get a couple days of cramping, staining, bleeding, staining, and then I am done. It's wonderful. Only thing better would be to not have one at all.

Hi Denise -- Don't apologize about asking this question at all. That's what we're all here for! My gynocologist is very experienced with treating WLS patients. I met with her before and after my surgery. She explained that immediately following my surgery, my period would be abnormally heavy (and painful) for the first month or two. She also placed me on the NUVA RING after my surgery (which emits hormones throughout the month). I have historically had problems with the pill, but the NUVA RING has been wonderful. I would recommend talking with your gynocologist if you continue to have problems. Take care! ~Lynn -56 lbs

Hey Denise, Don't apologize I have wondered the same thing too. But, I had a different problem. I am Catholic and was not on birth control and would have a perieod once every 12-24 months. (Makes getting pregnant a little difficult) That's what started me on this journey is that I had PCOS and had to loose weight. I was put on the b/c pills 2 weeks after surgery and have been regular since. I am on the Ovcon35 pills and it has been great.
