Just Curious!

I had surgery on 2/16; and this is my first post on this board....I was just wondering how everyone else is doing as far as amounts eaten....are you still scared to eat too much? after about 3 or 4 bites do you just feel like "ENOUGH" and stop? I am doing that with almost every "meal" that I eat. I just cant find anything that really appeals to me, and I don't eat very much of anything. Today, I ate more than I think I have since surgery. I ate about 3/4 C. of a vegetable soup w/added hamburger meat. It sort of scared me, because all of a sudden I just felt FULL. I have lost 46 lbs; andI feel really good, but I tend to eat alot of cold foods instead of cooked foods. It is really weird, but it seems like cooked things make me a little queasy sometimes. There are alot of people at my work who have had the surgery (we have united healthcare) (*I'm talking about probably at least 40 people, with at least 6-8 more scheduled) so I have alot of people to talk to about things, but I am curious how my fellow "FEBRUARY BABIES" are doing, and at what stage you are. Thanks for reading my novel! Sherri

Sherri, Welcome to the group. I had surgery 2/25 so just after you. At this point I normally do a visual on the quantity and stop. I eat between 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food normally. Something like cottage cheese I might eat 1/2 cup because it is moister than chicken. Some days I can eat a bite or two of the chicken, other days more just depends on my body that day and also on the moisture in the food. Soup is lots of fluids, so it is not surprising that you could eat 3/4 cup of it. Be careful tho as the fluids can help wash the food/nutrients out of your tummy sooner so that you do not absorb them and may feel hungier sooner than if you ate a solid food. I probably eat more cold than hot foods too. No particular reason other than it is easier. Dinner is usually a hot meal. Mary -80 lbs / 30 since surgery

I feel pretty much like you do. I still don't eat very much at all and I don't have very many foods that sound good to me. There are also a lot of foods that my tummy just can't handle like beef and pork and chicken. Even eggs are hit and miss. Sometimes I can eat one and sometimes it makes me sick. I don't eat very much food that's hot either. I've lost 41 pounds in 11 weeks and I'm pleased with that. It's a complicated journey! Linda open RNY February 25, 2004

Sherri, hello my 2/16 sister. There is I think one other person on this board with a 2/16/04 surgery date. Welcome. I've had to learn my lesson about pushing the limits and eating too much. I agree that the fullness sometimes sneaks up on me, too. I've slowed my eating, which seems to help. Keep up the good work.

Sherri, I am with you - I can't seem to eat much and even when I do eat I worry that I am going to overeat. I had surgery 2/27/04. I still do not know how much is too much - and I am afraid to pu**** I try to eat very slowly and chew chew chew. I seem to do better with fish, chicken, and dairy products. I can't seem to eat pork or beef at this time. I also find that after eating the protein I do not have room for anything else. Good luck trying new foods though! Liz
