medications
how soon did you all start taking capsules and tablets whole? i still do chewable vitamins and liquid tylenol for headaches, etc. i am wanting to try to stop smoking again (i quit for 7 weeks before the surgery and started again right after when i was home with nuttin' to do)...but i am sick of smoking and am ready to take the zyban if it is allowed. i am going to check with the nurse on the 18th when i go for follow up but wanted to see if anyone else has been through this. thanks,
I started taking whole pills in the hospital. I did the chewable children's for about 3 weeks. I haven't had any problems with pills. I don't understand what people mean when they say pills get stuck. Do they mean stuck in their pouch or their throats? I have had them hit like a rock. That is when I took 2 calcium, my antibiotic and antihistamine. I don't do that anymore.

I had the same questions for my doctor about taking antibiotics...wanted to make sure that I got rid of the strep throat. He said, that if I could personally tolerate to take the whole pill or capsule that it would be fine to do so and that the medicine would reach my blood stream to effectively take care of the bacteria.
Hope this helps,
Dorothy
Just remember no timed release medications.
My surgeon told me that I could take them when I had eaten solid food for about 2 weeks so for me right about the 8 weeks mark. I did buy a pill cutter and cut large tablets in half, capsules haven't been a problem. Just take it slow and try not to gulp too much water. I haven't had any problems with the pills now at all.

Kelly, Maybe I'm more cautious than most. I'm still taking chewable anything, liquid whatever is available and I still crush my HBP meds. I read somewhere its ok to take a whole pill if it will dissolve in water within 5 minutes. Otherwise it just gets pushed through whole and doesn't get absorbed. My 3 monthiversary is today!
