Hi There! When I speak of my doc having good bedside manners, I am saying that he is pleasant. He shows genuine concern for how I am feeling and tries to assure me that things are coming along and let's me know what is going on if I have any questions. By the way I think we had surgery on the same day. How has your weight loss been? How has your journey been? 359/313/165???

Hi Evelyn, Thanks for clarifying! Yes we did have surgery the same day. My stats are 275/230/140ish. So we are losing at the same pace!! I am doing great (most days-did you read my earlier whining post?-LOL). I can eat just about everything and anything beef, chicklen, steak, etc but eating low carb/high protein but have not had any problems...have never thrown up, only slightly dumped a few times off carbs, like bread (OMG makes me feel like crap) ..once I ate pizza and overstuffed and was so scared and I jammed my finger down my throat for minutes at a time praying to puke but couldn't!! ..I have not experimented with sugar, I just assume that I will be violently ill and have no interest as of yet to test my limits. Its better off not knowing and just assuming I have no tolerance..lol makes it easier on the brain thinking I can not physically have it rather than I shouldn't have it...that is my theory! How is everything with you? Getting your protein, excersize and wa wa? Take Care

You have been a champ. I have been able to eat just about everything I've tried. Haven't tried chocolate or sugary things. Sugar and sweets have been my downfall all of my life. Because of this, I am trying all I can to avoid even trying them. I have been sick only once and that was from Pork rinds. Never the dumping thing. I've gotten hot and bloated and then went off to sleep. I have tried some sugar free fudge popsicles. They are pretty good, but I have only had one. I feel somewhat like you about not wanting to test my tolerance because I'm afraid I might be one of those people that can tolerate anything. I have been getting my protein in atleast 5 days out of 7. My water problem is something else. Somedays I get all in and maybe even more; other days I can hardly get in 6 -7 cups. I have many physical problems so I can not do exercises (like walking, treadmill, weights), but I do try to get to do an hour of water exercise atleast 4 times a week. It does seem to make me feel better and I can feel strength coming into my legs and back a little. I'm just enjoying each wonderful new day as it is given to me. Have lost the 46 pounds. I see my doc again on Monday and I hope he has some good news for me. Take care and we'll talk again soon!

Well, let's see - I'm going to go the opposite way with this one here . . . my surgeon (who is a brilliant doc in my opinion) doesn't necessarily have "the best bedside manner". When I have asked questions such as :How much weight should I expect to lose (approx)?? His response was . . . "you'll never look like Cheryl Tiegs". Then later, when I went to see him because I was in panic mode because my weight loss was so slow he asked me to stand up on the bed & lift my shirt - he pulled on my fat tummy (sorry for the image - lol) & said "looks to me like you're belly is dropping" & then when I explained that I was afraid to only loose 50lbs after doing something so drastic - he got red faced upset & told me that "I should be grateful, because that would take me out of the morbidly obese category & that is what this surgery is meant to do" (oh yeah & once again remind me that I will never look like Cheryl Tiegs). It seems like every time I go to see him, I leave there in hysterics . . . I'm learning to just go & keep my mouth shut! I'll just figure this out on my own (oh yeah & with the help of you guys - lol). I would think that a doctor with a good bedside manner - would be "politically correct", empathetic, & most of all patient. And not have such a hang up with Cheryl Tiegs - oh yeah - that's just my request I don't know if that helped at all . . . . . Amanda -37

OMG that is aweful. What a jerk! I know how it is to have horrible docs. My surgeon is WONDERFUL, but when I was prego with my daughter my OB was suck a jerk off. I was young and scared and had questions and he would rush me and feel like I was bothering him and that is not good to do to a prego lady high on hormones raging. Needless to say he had me crying on the way home every couple visits..JERK and ps we will all be way hotter than cheryl tiegs by the time we are done...so kiss off Amanda's doc! LOLOLOL

OMG. I am so sorry you had to experience such a jerk. It would be really hard for me to go through that. I would probably call him on his behavior. Just ask him if he thinks it is appropriate to communicate in that manner. That it really upsets you and you think it is inappropriate. Keep up the good work and don't worry about him. Have you ever heard of an educated idiot. Sounds like you found one.

I think my surgeon has a great bedside manner. She has always treated me like a person not a number. Whenever I have seen her, she has seemed genuinely interested in how I was doing. She takes time to answer my questions. She never makes me feel rushed. I am very happy that I found a doctor who is skilled as well as caring.

My surgeon was wonderful. He is totally unassuming, and will take all the time you need to get your questions answered. He spoke with my family before I went into surgery, and told them to go have breakfast and come back in two hours, and he would come out and speak to them again. And he did, sat down with them, and explained what my condition was after the surgery, answered all their questions, and has never been anything but concerned, and polite, and kind.

Hi everyone, normally i lurk but I had to respond and just say my surgeon is awesome. He always calls me by name and actually remembers what is in my chart from previous visits. I work for another surgeon who does not do the surgery, and he is the same way, I have more respect for guys like this. kelly -58 Ps The office staff was awesome! never felt like I was being a pain or a bother and they actually return calls in a timely manner
