Questions, Questions, Questions???
Was just wondering what everyone is eating these days? I'm 11 weeks out and still having a little problem eating meat that isn't pureed, but I can handle that. I'm really wanting to have a salad (of all things)... I guess my question is what are we allowed to eat at this point? Are there things that we should just not eat at all or are we supposed to wait until a particular time period before it's safe to eat most foods? I would just ask my nutrionist, but she's the type of person that doesn't like questions. She had us come to two seperate group sessions and 1 one on one session and told us that there shouldn't be any questions because she could garuantee that everything that we needed to know would be answered in her lectures. And now we don't have anymore sessions with her...
For the most part, I'm doing really well with everything! I'm down 54lbs in 10 weeks, my clothes are sagging off of me (as long as they don't fall to the floor when I walk, I'm waiting a little longer before I buy new ones), I'm doing great with drinking my fluids and getting all of my protein in, I know I could improve with my exercise and also with not eating crackers as much as I do (they don't hurt to eat!!). I want to try new types of foods, but I'm kind of scared to.... I've gotten sick once from eating chicken and had some painful times after eating, so I don't want to do anything that's going to hurt me. I would love to hear any suggestions!!! Please help me!!
Hey,
We had surgery the same day. I have not lost as much as you have. YOu are doing great.
I eat everything. Today I had a unflavored unjury protien powder in 1% milk for breakfast. I had 3 oz. of steak for lunch. I had half of a toasted english muffin with a touch of no sugar added fruit spread, for snack. I had the meat and half of the krystal for supper, and the tiny weiner from a krystal pup. I was full and I had to wait to finish the weiner. I'll probably have some peanuts for snack. I feel like I ate a ton today.
Can you stand the taste of vienna sausages? I eat one or two for snack sometimes. I dip them in mustard.
I had some watermelon with my lunch this past weekend and it was fabulous. I do not dump on sugar. I try to limit my sugar though.
I have had salad about 2 times since surgery and it was divine. I want to do a bacon, turkey breast, cheese, black olive and cheese salad. I just need to run by the deli.

Hi Milissa! I'm about a month farther out than you, and I started eating some salad about a month ago. I find I can't tolerate it with creamy dressings, though - just Italian or a viniagrette. Stay away from celery! I am a little jealous of DK .... an english muffin would be heavenly! I really can't tolerate breads much - maybe a few crackers but that's it. This is probably good, because I'm a recovering bagel-holic. I can eat chicken and pork if they're REALLY moist. Otherwise, ground beef usually stays down. My theory is that because the beef has relatively more fat, it stays moister, and because it's ground our stomachs can handle it better, and we can chew it more thoroughly with less effort. I buy the Laura's lean beef burgers, cut them in half and throw them in the freezer, then cook/eat one every few days. Beef and soy are the only complete proteins, so says my RD, so that's good. I absolutely LOVE Mrs. Dash steak sauce - try it! Not as much sodium as A-1 or the others. Like you, I do not dump with sugar, but I still am very conscious to limit it. I still cut orange jiuce a little with water, for example. I'm down 50 pounds now and shopping in my own closet! I love it! I also could improve the exercise. I'm very paranoid about my upper arms turning into bat wings. I hope this helps? I am sitting here eating sushi as I type - of all things! But I craved it, and it stays down. Good luck to you.
I forgot about the rotissere chicken from the deli. It is really moist. I also have eaten roast beef that I cooked in the crock pot, and I had a home made taco salad the other night. I eat everything. I just have to watch the portions. My eyes are still way bigger than my stomach.
I did one 1/4 of a sushi wrap with a spoon of steamed rice. I guess, I'll skip the peanuts. LOL

i've made chili, and i've had wendy's chili with salad - very good, i just didn't eat their chips and sour cream. the chili lasted two meals, the salad three.
i've done well with small amounts of potato (i don't go for the "good carb/bad carb" stuff) and green beans. i ate this last weekend with two fried chicken wings (no skin -- well, okay, i scarfed some of the skin).
I can tolerate everything except bread. I too am a recovering bagel-aholic, so it can be torturous at times. I also do not dump on sugar, but like the rest, try not to eat too much in a day. I can eat chicken, ground beef, turkey, pork, steak, salads, veggies, fruits - really, just about everything. I hope someday that I can have bread, but I can wait.
I also tried a glass of wine this weekend just to see what would happen (I am going to Vegas next week and don't want to find that it makes me sick there) and while I did feel a little woozy after a small glass, I generally felt ok. Not that I am going to go and get liquored-up, but a glass would be nice here and there.
So far I have lost 47 pounds, but I also work out 6 days per week, 3 times a week with a personal trainer. I can tell in my arms and legs that I am building muscle, so the scale does not depress me so much.
Good luck to all with your great success!

Thank you all for your responses! I'm truely amazed at some of the things that you all are eating.... such as sushi and salad! There's hope yet for me!!! I actually ate a quarter of a peanutbutter and jelly (sugar free) sandwhich about a month or so ago and I handled it well, but I've just honestly not allowed myself to experience that again. I'm affraid to go back to my old ways... I was and still am (in my head) a breadaholic!!! I hear stories of people that gain all their weight back because they don't listen to their body when it says that they're full or just eat all the wrong things. I guess it's good to stay scared for a little while. I'm just so happy to hear that salad seems to work for everyone!!! That's going to be a great treat for me though I'm sure I won't be able to eat much of it.... I'm still looking forward to the taste! Does it still amaze everyone how fast you get full and are satisfied too? I like that because I can eat something if I'm truly craving it, but don't have to worry that I'm going to overeat! Well thank you all again, you're all doing fantastic!!!!! We can do this together!!!
