I was wondering, do you eat carbs, if so do you count them/ How many a day do you allow yourself? I try to avoid them but it is hard to find anything that dosen't have them. just a question I've been pondering for a few days. Thanks in advance for any input on this subject. kim

Kim, I try to keep them at 30 or below a day. Since I'm doing mostly protein I don't always count them each day. My most important calculations is protein as they want to do 75 grams or more a day. I have to count otherwise I fall below the requirement. Mary

Hi Kim, It's a complicated question "how much carbs?". I try to pay more attention to carbs per serving rather than carbs per day. On average, we have to eat less than 10g of sugar (and/or sugar alcohol) per serving to prevent dumping. Our servings are much less than what's on a label. So, even at 15g of sugar per serving, if we only eat half a serving, then we've only consume 7.5g of sugar. Fiber content is also counted under the total amount of carbs, but generally speaking fiber is good for us (so it doesn't often matter). As for breads and grains, it's not so much the carb content that makes them a problem for us as it is their tendancy to clump together in a dense mass that sits in our pouchs. For those of us (myself included) who have dared to eat a slice of bread, you know the pain it causes. I try to avoid really doughy breads. I've found that, in small amounts, I can tolerate things that are light breaded and to a lesser extend small sandwhichs made out of wraps. Don't worry so much about avoiding carbs altogether...you won't be able to do it. Even our protein shakes have some carbs. Rather pay attention to the type of carb (ie, avoid dense or clumpy) and the amount of sugar/sugar alcohol per serving. Best wishes, Darrin
