Eating for your Blood Type?!!
Hi Guys!
I had lap Rny 2/17/04 and have been an EXTREMELY SLOOOOOOOOOOOW LOSER. I am drinking my water, doing my excersize, getting my vitamins and getting my protein in ALONG watching my carbs. I have been on a modified version of Adkins. All I drink is water or crystal light. No juices! No fruits! very very little veggies! Well now I read this stuff about eating for my blood type, which is A+. Supposedly, I am supposed to eat lots of fruits and veggies, very little or no meat. Its supposed to be high carb/low fat diet. I am starting to rethink my diet......should I go for the fruits and veggies and lay off the meat for a while? Have any of you ever tried this eat by your blood type diet or heard of anyone that has? I need to boost my weightloss. Maybe this is the answer????????? ANY THOUGHTS?
Heidi, I guess my first thought is that I think you are doing just great with your weight. I think 38 pounds in 9 weeks is great! Everyone loses at their own rate. IMHO you should eat what your doctor tells you to. High protein is important. You need to watch the fruits since they are full of natural sugar. It sounds like you are doing everything right. You said you are exercising and getting your protein and water in and taking vitamins and eating low carbs. I think you should be proud of yourself. Try not to judge your success by the numbers on the scale. You will lose the weight! Hang in there. If you really don't think you are losing enough then ask your doctor for his/her opinion.

High protein is a very important part of the RNY post-op lifestyle along with low carbs. I would doubt that your surgeon would agree to the change in diet. Also lots of fruits could trigger dumping for you.
Did you realize that your body needs a minimum of 60 grams of protein a day for the muscles to remain healthy? What so many forget is that our heart is a muscle, so by doing higher protein you are taking care of it too. If you lower your protein intake, you could in the long run also be damaging your heart.
My internist/nutritionist that works hand in hand with my surgeon says they feel a 2 lb a week weight loss if normal after RNY surgery for the average. I'm 8 weeks out today and have lost 25 lbs, so that is just about 3 lbs per week for me. You are 9 weeks out and have lost 38 lbs, so you have lost over 4 lbs per week average. For you that is over 1/2 a lb per day!!!!
I know we all want our weight to come off immediately especially when we hear of others who have lost so much more than us. When I think I am losing SLOW, I remember that it took me a year to get off and keep off 50 lbs before surgery and that it has only taken me 2 months to lose 1/2 that amount now. Puts it back into perspective for me.
Remember fad diets don't work. You are making lifestyle changes in eating and exercise after the surgery and you are on the right track.
