Very slow process!!!!
I am so glad that I am not the only one feeling like this is a slow process. I had my surgery on 2/12/04 (2months ago) and last I weighed myself I was down 44 pounds from 280 to 236. I am also down 2 pant sizes. Now I am happy for every pound and inch I have lost but it is really depressing to read about people that have lost so much more at this point. I am also eating between 3-4 ounces at each meal and so far I have had no problems. I have tried all different types of food and only raw string beans made me sick. Not that I am complaining but other people have felt this great too, right? I just want to make sure I am not a freak of nature that has beaten the surgery.
Erica we are twins to the tee!!!! I had my surgery on 2-12 started at 280 and weigh in at about 234-236ish (my scale is different than the doctors). I was released from the hospital on Sunday and went to the the mall that Monday. I even went back to work on 2-20. I have not gotten sick on anything (including the one small bite of a brownie and one small bite of cheesecake on Sunday).
My girlfriend who had surgery last year and was a little heavier than me is amazed at how much I have lost already. She swore she lost alot less this far in the game.
So by going by how I'm doing and feeling you are doing fabulous. Email me and lets keep in touch!!!!
I think you are doing great Erica! I will be 2 months out next week & I am only down 28 lbs. I started at 265 & lost 10lbs the week pre-op & have lost the 28lbs since.
The only problem that I've had with food was with dairy. I tried yogurt when I was like 2 weeks out & dumped pretty bad. I might be "ok" now, but I'm too scared to find out. Sometimes I have a hard time remembering to eat slowly - but that's usually only when I have a 1/2 hour to eat my lunch during the work week.
I'm averaging around 80-100 gms of protein a day as well as 700-800 calories. I read on the main message board yesterday that most people can't even get to that many calories until like 6 months out! Talk about feeling like a freak - lol.
I am absolutely terrified that I'm not going to loose much more. I go to see my doctor tomorrow - but I know that he is only going to get mad at me for comparing myself to others . . . but I don't know what else to do at this point.
Congrats on your awesome progress . . . & you're never alone!

I agree...I read a similar post several days ago from DK and I wanted to join in then...just havent had the time to post.
I had surgery on 2/18, but had complications and wasnt released until 2/25. I did not loose any weight while i was in the hospital for a week. I am now down 30 lbs. I was 252 before surgery. I guess we are considered 'lightweights' when we are under 300 pounds to start with. Last week I was down 32 pounds and these 2 pounds keep waivering back and forth.
Now, I have not started any true excercise, but I went back to work on 3/1 so I am not seditary. I am not drinking all my water...maybe only 24oz a day, I know, I am bad...I am however eating only things that have protein...so...I dont know what the trick is?
I am really trying very hard to be patient and accept the weightloss at a slower rate, but dang, this is killing me.
Is everyone excercising? Is everyone counting their protein grams? Is everyone drinking all their water? Maybe we can find a common denominator? Or may the 'lightweights' dont loose as fast?
Hi Erica,
I have felt great since I came home ... sure some aches and pains, but really have felt good. Eating is going pretty well, only been sick a couple of times and usually cause I ate too fast.
I'm 7 weeks out tomorrow and have lost 24 lbs (and 50 before surgery for a total of 74 lbs). You are doing great.
Mary
This message board is the best!
I was feeling all down because I have lost 36lbs. I am 7 weeks out and in the last 2 weeks I have not lost any weight. I am exercising. My job is physical. I am getting my 50g of protien in and I am getting my water in. I am glad to see that I am not the only one. I am also a "light weight". I was 256 pre op. I was so discouraged yesterday when I weighed myself. Today I am feeling hopeful.
Well, I'm glad I found this message board!! I'm with you guys. I'm almost 9 weeks out and have lost 42 pounds. I've been so disappointed. However, it took awhile to put the weight on, I guess I shouldn't expect to lose it over night. Actually I think we all are doing very good! Just think about it for a minute....40 pounds in 2 months???? Something we couldn't have done before surgery...so everyone....chin up (I used to have to say "chins up") and keep up the good work!!!!

I think I'm loosing it slower than most. I can't remember who wanted to know if we were getting in our water, exercising, protien ect....
I do not exercise regularly. (Do you want to hear all my excuses?)
I get about 50 oz of liquid a day.
I don't count my protien. I do count the days I have a protien drink.
I find it hard to break it all down. I really don't want to be a slave to it, but I suppose I need to, so I can see if I'm getting enough in.
I have changed my goals, so they will be more attainable.
I started out as a lightweight. I was 229 the morning of my surgery and today I'm 193.5.
I keep saying I will walk on the treadmill every night, but someone has a practice or game, or church. I don't know about you but I'm tired by 9:30 at night, and I'm thinking I'm feeling so tired, because I am not getting enough liquids in. I did get up one morning and walk before work, but that was short lived with the time change. My body has not caught up yet. I wish I could get it back into rhythm, because I had so much more energy that day.
Debbie -35.5 I will be 10 weeks tomorrow
I do think that people who weigh less to begin with loose slower, but I think it is because it takes less energy to move an object that weighs around 200 pounds than it does to move an object that weighs 300 or 400 pounds. A 400 pound person would burn a lot more calories walking a mile than a 200 pound person. But other than that, just loosing weight during Easter and on vacation rather than gaining is a plus for me. You are all doing great!! Try not to compare yourselves, everyone will reach a plateau at different times and will lose differently all the way to goal. I know my slow down is coming also, even if I started at the over 300 pound range.
Keep smiling and concentrate on doing what you're doing, it will come off,
Dorothy
