Easter Challenges
Hi folks:
I have found the last few days challenging was wondering if it was
just me. Monday, I went to purchase goodies for easter baskets
found myself wandering around the easter candy isle for more
than 25 minutes and still couldn't put anything in my cart. I finally
left and decided that this would have to become one of my
husbands new tasks. I don't know why I couldn't put anything in
the cart, I do know I found myself missing the taste of sugar.
Then today, I have been craving the idea of taking a really big
bite of food chewing it breifly and swallowing it. Wow the idea
of not nibbling. I have to admit I am sick of nibbling and chewing
things to death. I'm finding that I am loosing my desire for most
food now, except for nuts. Definately no regrets about the surgery
but just a few challenging days.

the only time I even think about candy (chocolate) is right before my cycle. Otherwise, it doesn't even bother me. But yes, during that couple of days, I GOTTA have chocolate. I've found that one piece is plenty since the surgery, and I buy the Atkins chocolate, or Pure Delite, or Russell Stover, and have my one piece. It's so much better than snapping everyone's face off for speaking to me. =)
Before anyone condemns me for eating my one lil piece of chocolate, before I had this surgery, it was nothing for me to eat a 1 pound bag of peanut M&M's, along with just about any other sugar I could get hold of.
Since the surgery, I've cycled once, and was amazed that it only took one lil piece to settle me down, and that was sugar free. Oh yeah, and I've lost 54 pounds since Feb 3.
We all have to do what makes us sane. Sometimes the cravings have the potential for making me crazy. I too, have indulged in goodies since my surgery and it did not kill me. I needed it to keep from the feeling of self deprivation. So, you're not a bad person, you are very human and love chocolate. I'd bathe in it if I could sometimes. I used to live in Hershey, PA and could smell the chocolate factory from my apartment. Talk about feeling totally nuts until you had some chocolate in your mouth. Good luck.

I'm ringing in with my .02...yes it has been a challenge and you are certainly not alone. Easter is my favorite holiday because of the spiritual renewal aspect and having recently undergone wls - this seems like an extra special holiday. Do what you have to do to keep your mind free of the nagging sense of deprivation...generally that in and of itself can be more detrimental than the actual indulgence.

I know exactly what you mean! I guess that's one of the simultaneous advantages and disadvantages of this surgery. You lose your desire for most foods!! I find I can still tolerate salmon and tuna salad with wheat thins very well. Those are the easiest things for me to eat, really.
Grab you some sugar free chocolate and have a piece or two. As The Rock says, "Life is too short. You can't cheat yourself; you have to treat yourself."
I believe that if you're craving something, you should go ahead and have some. As long as you still watch your portion size and watch your sugar and fat intake, and get your protien. That's the great thing about this surgery, we CANT eat more than a small amount of anything, so the weight comes off! I'm not saying we should fall back into the habit of eating fattening foods all the time, but once in a while won't hurt anything. It's better to be happy and eat a little of what you like sometimes, rather than get depressed.
Have a happy Easter all, and don't eat too much, but you all have my permission to take a little taste of something if you really want to!

i too have indulged in chocolate and other sweets and I haven't dumped on any of them... I do feel guilty when I eat it but i do crave it a lot before that TOM...plus I have 7 kids who always give me little tastes of this and that every now and then
Hugs to all,

-37lbs (yes I am a slow loser)
I've made a committment to give up sugar anything for 6 months and no damn Easter Bunny is getting over on me, lol.
I am dreading Sunday, every year my husband buys me my favorite chocolate Easter Bunny and basket. I'm so bummed but I'm not failing. My GB Counselor told me eating sugar, even very little could slow or stop my weight loss. You only have 12-18 months to lose the weight, is it really worth risking that for something that you only enjoy for about 10 seconds?
