Anyone notice their hair not shining like normal? I usually have very healthy looking hair, but I noticed it looking really flat and dull this week. I have not noticed any hair loss, but definitely a change in appearance. Debbie -33

Debbie, I have noticed the same thing but figure it is the low calories and non fat diet I am on after surgery. Most people say the hair loss doesn't start until the 3rd month. Nancy

D.K are you getting enough protein (via food and shakes) daily (check your daily intake at www.thinnerself.com), are you supplementing with vitamins, minerals? That could be the culprit for the loss of shine, true we don't take in much fat (because of malabsorption) but the vitamin/minerals and protein should compensate for what we don't absorb through eating....just my two cents. I am about 6 weeks out and no appreciable difference in hair, skin texture/moisture...have about 60-100 grams of protein a day. Michelle

I know that my water intake is falling short of goal, but I do take all my supplements and am not quite sure if I'm getting my protien requirements. I know I do most days when I do my protien drink, but I don't always do them. I eat meat and cheese as far as protien, but not sure if it is enough. It is so hard for me to get it all in. Blech! I'll go to the website you mentioned. Thanks, Debbie -33

Hey Debbie - also, check out a good hair, skin, nail vitamin at your local health food store or grocer. I know something else to swallow but might help - they generally contain boosted amounts of Vit E, A, D, zinc, etc. Good luck, but please please try the shakes because truth be told they 1. stave off the 'head hunger' 2. increase sense of fullness and 3. provide us with much needed vit/min that we simply can't get with food. Hi DK: I've been noticing a little more loss this week when I comb my hair after washing. Several friends who had the surgery recommended using Nutri-ox shampoo and conditioner. I started using it about 1 month before surgery. It seems to have helped with shine and thickness but I'm not sure it's going to help with loss. I guess I'll see soon. Eileen
