Does anyone really know how much protein I should be taking in every day? Also, how do you really calculate that amount if there is nothing to get that information from like having the amount on the wrapper or box? Thank You Laurie

Laurie, I originally was told 60 grams of protein a day. I saw the nutritionist about 2 weeks ago, they did an electrode type test (sensors on the hand and foot) that told them my muscle mass, body fat levels. From that they detemined my total protein needed for each day. They told me to stay between 75 to 125 grams a day. I'm at 237 (5'1") and have a muscle mass of 56%. I know the bare mimimum is 60 grams as that is what is required for the average person to maintain their muscle mass. Remember your heart is a muscle too, so it is extremely important to keep the protein levels at at least the minimum level. You might want to call your surgeon's office or your nutritionist and see what they recommend for you on a daily basis. Mary

Hey Lady - here's a website I discovered that does a personalized profile based on your wt, ht, level of activity - guideline for protein (daily) intake. www.thinnerself.com and www.fitday.com; also, I believe Obesity Help has a section in member profiles that requests wt, ht and then gives you a guideline for daily protein intake Michelle
