I WANT TO GIVE UP BUT CAN'T!
What the hell is going on??? yesterday I walked 3.2 miles at a good pace for me. I walked it in one hour. I watched what I ate..612 cal, 35 carbs, 80 protein, plenty of liquids, 12 fat. And yet today I get on the scale and STILL NOTHING! Now the other day I did 45 minutes on my bike, rested one day and then this and nothing. I am so frustrated that I am actually losing my appetite. I don't want to eat. I don't want to drink. I just want to give up. But I can't do that either. I haven't lost an ounce in a week and a half. All I want to do is sleep the day away. I know I am feeling depressed about this and I am taking my meds, but damn, no amount of pills is going to take this disappointment away.

Joanne,
I know you are frustrated, but remember your body is adjusting to the weight loss, recovery from the surgery etc. Sometimes it just needs a break. You might try adding in just a few more calories to see if that makes a difference for you. I remember from Weigh****chers that the calorie increase helped some of the members lose weight. When you get under a certain calorie level our bodies think it is in starvation mode and slows the metabolism way down which of course would slow down the weight loss too.
Don't spend the day in bed ... get out, enjoy life and focus on all the positives and blessings you have. Don't let the numbers on the scale rule your life.

Joanne, you are right about not eating more than 1/4 to 1/3 cup at a time. Some people eat 5 small meals a day from what I have read. I am considering doing that as I would like to get away from the protein shakes and know I can't get in the 75 to 125 grams of protein without spacing out my eating. My dietitian hasn't given me a calorie amt yet but from what I have read 600 to 1000 calories a day. Mary
I actually love my protein shakes. I have the fuzzy navel mixed with sf raspberry koolaid. I love that. I really am afraid to have more to eat though. I can do my 3 meals with 3 shakes in between but I am afraid to. it seems like too much to me. God, the fear of gaining it back is incredible.
Joanne
Joanne, do you have a dietitian you can asked for help? I see one once a month now as a post-op. Last week it was just to discuss going from liquid diet to pureed. If you do have one, it might be worthwhile calling to ask for more specific guidelines or your surgeon's office may have the information for you too. I don't mind the shakes, just don't want to stay on them long term. Mary
Joanne;
I hear your frustration and support your continuing with your walking and exercise program. Please remember that as you continue to exercise, you are building muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat and could be a reason for not seeing a lot of movement on the scale. I don't know how often you're weighing yourself, but if it's more than once a week, that's probably not a good idea. While your body adjusts to its new, lower caloric intake, it is going through a major re-organization. Sometimes these shifts happen on a daily basis and can cause fluctuations in your weight, that a weekly or even bi weekly weigh in would reflect more accurately. Finally, make sure that you are getting in at least the minimum calories recommended by your nutritionist each and every day! This is so important. Your body is already thinking you're starving, if you don't give it the minimum fuel it needs to carry out basic functions, it's just going to dig in its heels and hold on to every ounce of fat you have stored up.
These are just things I'm passing along to you, that I got from my nutritionist. The bottom line is, you're doing a great job. You are coping, and most importantly, your sharing and are open to the multitude of help and support that is available here on this wonderful website. You just continue to fight the good fight, and we'll be your cheer leaders rooting you on. God bless, Bob.
