I had my WLS 2-23-04 and my weight was 317. 3-23-04 I weighed 299. I say that I losed 28 pds because I gained 10 pds while I was in the hospital because of swelling and fluid but if I didn't count that I would have only lost 18 pds for the month. I have heard of people losing 30 pds a month and a friend of mine that had her surgery 3 days after me have lost 40 pounds already. Is there something I'm doing wrong?? Someone please email me if they are going through the same thing. Qiyawna

I'm exactly one month out today and have lost 18 lbs since surgery for a total of 68 lbs total since last year. Last week the nutritionist/internist told me I was right on target and not to worry. We just can't compare ourselves to others, there are so many factors that play into this. The person's starting weight, their BMI as a pre-op how much fluid retention they had pre-surgery, did they lose weight pre surgery etc. This and more affects the weight loss. Mary

HI QIYAWNA I HAVE TO AGREE WITH MARY ...EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. YOU CANNOT COMPARE YOUR WEIGHTLOSS TO ANYONE ELSES. ALSO MOST PEOPLE ARE TELLING YOU THEIR OVERALL WEIGHTLOSS. LIKE ME FOR INSTANCE...I LOST 8 LBS ON THE LIQUID DIET WHICH STARTED 2 DAYS B 4 MY SURGERY AND I DO INCLUDE THAT IN MY WEIGHTLOSS. ALSO HAVE YOU STARTED WORKIN OUT YET? I WAS TOLD TO WAIT 6 TO 8 WEEKS..SO IVE BEEN WALKIN BUT THATS ABOUT IT. BUT IM SURE THAT WILL SPEED UP OUR WEIGHTLOSS TOO. KAY DEE

i was one month on monday and if my scales are correct i have lost right at 25 pounds also. i have to admit i am a little disappointed BUT i just can't let myself get into that craze of comparing myself to others loss. someone on another post broke this down and it made so much sense to me that even if we lose 1 to 2 pounds a week in a year it would be close to 200 pounds....i have to focus on the long term and as long as i know i am doing the next right thing it will work for me. So don't get down on yourself. You are doing just fine. We all are!!!

Yes its normal for you. I understand exactly how you feel, my friend had her surgery the day before me(2/23/04) and she lost 30 pounds on her 2 week check up, needless to say i was a little disgusted with that even knowing i have a hard time losing. Just hang in there, I look at this way. When i wave there won't be so much underflapping! Kelly
