According to my surgeon's plan, I have worked up to 40 grams of protein a day. I expected to work up to at least 60. today the dietitian told me that I would need to maintain the protein from 75 to 125 grams a day because of my muscle mass. Right now I weigh 240 (down from 305) and the machine showed my muscle mass at 133 which is 55%. Wonder what is normal muscles mass %, I didn't think to ask. How much protein are each of you getting in? I'm 3 weeks post-op and FEELING GREAT!! Mary

Rachel, how much protein do you think you are getting in each day. Right now I was to be at 40 grams minimum and now am to continue to work up to 75 then higher if possible. So somewhere between 75-125 grams. ProComplex has 55 grams per drink as it uses 2 scoops. The dietitian highly recommended using that one to boost the grams. It is actually pretty good. I made it with one scoop of protein, so will have to try it with 2. Congratulations on your weight loss, that is great. Any specific reason you feel you are recovering slower than others? Are you not feeling well? The nutritionist had me take a B12 shot yesterday (which helps with energy levels). Altho I didn't feel I needed it, she said it was what she

My nutritionist did a calculation with my ideal body weight according to my height (5'8"). I am required to have 80 grams minimum per day. I want to continue to build muscle as I exercise and want to keep my hair, so I am having 6 small meals between 10 and 15 grams of protein each. I usually get between 82 to 90 grams. It would not hurt to get more, but I like to vary my food a little without adding so much supplement. Dorothy

Dorothy, That is a great idea too. They came up with my protein count after they did some kind of test with a machine that had electrodes on my body. It gave them my muscle mass, fat mass, body fat, how many calories my body burned a day and my target weight. Mary

I get in 90-120 grams daily thru predigested protein shakes.
