I am 5 weeks out, possibly have a stricture (I'm calling the doc tomorrow), have major depression that I am taking meds for, my sugar is not going down, and in the last 3 weeks I have only lost 3 lbs for a total of only 20. What is happening???

I don't know what is happening, but I just wanted to tell you to try to stay focused. I am so sorry that you may have a stricture problem. I just wanted you to know that someone out here is thinking of you.

Thanks Jess, This is so hard. What WAS hard was that I was posting to the main board but there are so many people there that have had their surgeries at different time. At least here I can talk to others that are going through it at the same time as I am. Everythign seems so messed up. Do you think this is a plateau? I am not eating anything due to the possible stricture so why am I not losing. I lose on a starvation diet once by not eating. Can't understand why I am not losing now.

Just another thought, if you aren't able to eat enough, your body is in a self preservation mode. You will need to get that stricture taken care of, so you can get more nutrients in. It is strange, but we have to eat to loose weight. Sigh..... Hang in there, Debbie -24

But when I starved myself I lost. I should still lose a decent amount. I feel myself coming so close to regreting it and I have never regreted anything. I know it takes time but damn...I didn't weigh since the 23rd of last month. I expected more than 3 lbs. Joanne

They will be different, for the both of us. But Woman, you need to pick up the phone and call me if you are having problems with eating and what to eat. I can help there. Got a 2 inch thick book telling all the carbs, fat, protein, cal of all foods and even fast foods. Joanne

I was wondering if you found out about your possible stricture. You depression meds might be making you hold on to the weight. I am one day ahead of you and have only lost 24, so you aren't doing too bad. I have had a pattern for the last five weeks. It will be interesting to see if I continue that way. I don't loose for nearly 8 or 9 days and then I'll start dropping again usually 4 or 5lbs in 5 days or so, and then stall again. I hope you feel better soon. It is so hard to learn our new pouch and eating habits. Are you exercising at all? I've just started using the treadmill, and I don't love it. I'm hoping one day I will... Debbie -24 I'm hypothyroid, and I don't know if that is why I haven't lost as quickly as some folks do so early on.

I will know about the stricture tomorrow hopefully. As far as the meds, I just started back on them 3 days ago so they can be holding me back yet. I hate exercising too. Actually it wouldn't be so bad if I had someone to do it with. I live in the country. There is an exercise place close by but the people that go there are snobs. So basically I am alone until my fiance and son get home. They are no fun to exercise with. I have a treadmill and bike but again, no one to help motivate me. No one to share it with. Can you tell my depression is bad???????? Joanne

I'm sorry you are having a hard time. Glad you are planning to call your doctor tomorrow. Your body is probably going thru a hibernation mode where it slows the metabolism way down because it thinks you are in starvation mode. Keep up your eating plan and exercise and it should correct itself very soon. Remember each person loses at a different rate. It was a major discussion yesterday at our support group meeting. Many of the post-ops discussed at how slow they had lost (some only 8 to 10 lbs a month the first 3 months) but the weight did come off. All of them had lost 100+ lbs. As long as you are drinking lots of fluids, eating right, and exercising you are definitely dling the right things. It will happen for you, just try to stay focused on your goals. Mary
