Hi there Pro-op weight at 252. I had lap RnY on 2/18...several complications...blood clot...lost a lot of blood...vena cava filter installed...and pnemonia on top of it all. I was in ICU for 3 days. Been weighing in between 230 and 231.5 for the last week. I have no problem with any type of food. I do not drink protein shakes. I cannot stand them. I do eat protein bars like EAS Advantage, trying to stay with the ones with 20g of protein and more. I am eating my protein through egg, meat, soy and cheese sources. I was told if I can tolerate regular food and I am eating protein, then all is well. I wanted to ask if anyone else is doing this at an early stage of the game as well. Thanks, Robin Surgery lap 2/18 252~230.5~120

Robin, I am eating off the pureed list. I have tried eggs (scrambled and hard-boiled) and my stomach said NO and made me sick for several hours. I found that I can eat chili from Wendy's (I like the beans). I am eating all kind of cheeses. About the best that I can do for meat is tuna and I mix it with fat free miracle whip. I do not eat huge amounts at any single sitting and I am doing just fine. I weigh a lot more than you, but I have lost 23 pounds since surgery on the 17th (I dropped 15 just before the surgery). Most of the weight came off in the first and second week, I have only lost 3 pounds in the last 2 weeks. I do rely on protein drinks, my nutritionist said 80 grams protein a day for me. I only like the clear kinds, I don't care for the kind that have milk products in them. Hope this helps, email me if you have specific questions, Dorothy Surgey Lap 2/17 325~287~165

Robin, Sorry to hear that you had such problems after surgery. Good news that you are doing well now tho. I'm looking forward to being able to do protein bars and I use them as meal replacements for breakfast as a pre-op and they really kept me satisfied. My surgeon believes in full liquids for 4 to 6 weeks, then pureed for 2 to 3, then real food. Since I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out it is still liquids for me and I'm gradually working up the protein (as he requested). So now am doing 35 to 50 grams a day and over the next 2 weeks will be up to 60+ a day which is where he wants me at. I do use shakes as recommended by my surgeon. It is interesting the differences between surgeons. I think that as long as we are following their guidelines and the surgeon feels we are doing well, that that is the most important. Hi Robin. I had surgery 2-17 and am down 34 pounds so far. I have had one episode of dumping on clam chowder and I have to say it was awful! I never want to dump again! I am drinking Whey Protein shakes. I got the vanilla flavor and from that I can add anything I want to change the flavor. I usually add a banana to it and I have bought some frozen peaches, raspberries, blueberries and strawberries. Peach and banana is my favorite though! I seriously couldn't stand any of the protein shakes I had tried befoe that but I love it! So far I haven't run across anything I can't eat. I had a bad experience with a hard boiled egg yesterday but I could have just eaten too much for my pouch to handle. It looks to me like you are doing great!

Hi and thanks for posting...I have managed to stay at 22 pounds lost for a couple of days now...I have faith it will be lower in the next couple of days. I know I have still been loosing inches..at total of 13 so far. I know the protein is most important...along with vitamins and the calcium supplements. Robin 2/18/04 Lap RnY 252~230~120
