2 weeks post op---don't feel like eating?

Hi! I had my surgery on Feb. 26. I hope everyone of you is doing well. I'm still on the blended diet (of course, no solids yet), but NOTHING tastes good to me. In fact, I pretty much hate everything even though sometimes I AM actually hungry. I am eating a little of this, a little of that (yogurt, applesauce, carnation sugar free instant breakfast), but nothing appeals to me. Does anyone have this "problem"? (please note, I've NEVER had this kind of problem before---I was always one to eat, so this is strange , ha ha). Are there any high in protein drinks out there that people would suggest? Thanks!!

I have 4 weeks (1 1/2 more to go) of liquids (no yogurt, applesauce etc for me). I'm allowed diluted fruit juices at the moment (one of the few ways I can get calories in other than protein drink). I really like the diluted grape juice and drink it or make it into ice cubes for snow cones. Also I take Tomato Juice or V-8 dilute them and heat. Makes a great soup broth that is more flavorful than chicken or beef broth. I live Pro-Complex, Apple Nectar, AnyWhey Tasteless protein. Also have started to use Isopure Protein drink from GNC. It is ready made, very smooth and no lumps. It is not cheap tho at $2.50 a can. It has 35 grams of protein in it. Mary

I just checked, it is not Isopure at GNC that I buy. It is World Wide Pure Protein .. comes in chocolate, vanilla, caramel, strawberry, and banana. Runs anywhere from $2 to $2.69 a can depending on the store.

Be thankful--sure beats having cravings! Our new motto: Eat to live, rather than living to eat! Unfortunately this will not last--just gives us an advantage while it is here. Only a few things have tasted good to me either. But I make myself get my 60 gm protein and 64 oz fluids each day. Good luck to you... Joy

Rose, check out the response I sent for "25 days post op & ....." by Maria S., I typed in my favorite proteins and the stats, I have to get 80 grams per day so I have looked around for the highest protein content possible with the least amount of eating or drinking. I felt similar to how you feel for the first couple weeks, your appetite will eventually rebound and just try some samples, so you don't have a whole bunch of stuff in your cupboards that you hate. Good luck and this too shall pass, Dorothy

Hi Rose: I completely empathize with you. I had my surgery on 2/3/04 & I feel the same way. Amazingly, for once in my life eating is more of a burden than a comfort/joy. The high protein mix that I really like is Isopure zero carb vanilla mix. I blend it with the sugar free/low carb yougurt (strawberry is good) & mix in a little ice & it is pretty good, plus you can get your protein content in pretty well with this mix. During my first couple of weeks I really liked sugar-free popsicles. I find even now they are fairly satisfying & even help curb nausea. I was also big on the chicken broth because it was soothing to my pouch - I guess because of the warmth. Good luck & hang in there. God bless Angel
