Almost 3 weeks post-op.....
On Monday i get to go on the Pureed Phase!!!!! Yeah! I am looking forward to eating some real food again even if it is mush. I am so tired of liquid i have to force myself to drink. It has been really hard to smell the cooked food the family has to eat. Lately it makes my mouth water even though my stomach is full. Does anyone else feel this way? I have lost 30 pounds in 2 weeks. I can't wait to sit wiht the family again and even though i have to make some changes the out come will be all worth it! If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
Good Luck Luck to Everyone~ Jill
Jill,
You are doing GREAT!!! My surgery was 2 days after yours. So far I'm not hungry and don't mind watching others eat (thank goodness). The other day my hubby brought home a hamburger and fries. With that I did leave the room, it did smell heavenly. LOL.
I miss chewing as I'm still on full liquids for two more weeks. I'm allowed diluted juices at this point. I've taken diluted grape juice, froze it into ice cubes, and then run it thru my snow cone machine. It is wonderful. Allows me to chew, gives me some nutrition and fluid, and tastes great.
As of yesterday I could do V-8 or Tomato Juice. I diluted it with water (by choice not because I have too) and heat it up in the microwave. It makes a great soup. Chicken and beef broth are getting a little old.
Sugar Free popsicles have been a blessing too.

Mary,
Don't the fruit juices have a lot of sugar in them? I'd love to know which brands you are using... I love juice!
Jill,
I feel the same way! It's hard to watch others eat.... everything smells so good. Luckially I'm not hungry so that makes it easier. I was so excited to start soft protien foods one week after surgery. I can't imagine having to wait longer! In 2 weeks I get to start soft veggies and fruit w/no skin. I can't wait to eat a banana (or a bite of one)
Jill,
Since the only calories I get are from one protein drink a day and I had to work up to that .. I think they allow the juices to keep calories up and get some vitamins in too. So my surgeon allows "diluted" fruit juices (apple, grape, cranberry only). I have found the Juicy Juice brand to have the least amount of sugar but it is still 28 grams. I dilute 1 cup of juice to 1 cup water so sugar would be 14 grams. I'm getting in about 400 calories a day total, 30 to 40 grams of protein, and at least 64 oz of fluids.
Once I'm doing pureed foods, I need to eliminate the juices. So for now they are a lifesaver for me. Especially since I can drink them or make snow cones with it.
