Hey fellow post-ops! I know it would be helpful to me, and likely helpful to others, if we could all share what we are eating! Please include how many days post op you are, and the amounts and consistency too! Thanks!! As for me, i am 9 days post op and i am drinking water, propel, ice blended with water and propel, SF Carnation instant breakfast, chicken broth, beef broth, very runny potatoes (i mix in broth to make it runny..) it is the consisency of stage 1 baby food. i had a little scrambled egg today, maybe 1/3 of the egg. it was light and in very small pieces. i chewed it to much and swallowed. thats it so far for me, but im wanting to branch out, hence the post hehe! Thanks guys!!

Rachel, My surgery was 2/25 but my surgeon is adamant about full liquids for 4 to 6 weeks. So my diet consists of: broth, SF jello, SF popsicles, SF snow cones, diluted grape and apple juices, protein drinks, propel water, water. Fortunately I'm not hungry so am doing pretty well with this. Mary

Doesn't full liquids include diary? I would think you could add in creamy soups and milk and SF pudding. At least that is my dr's definition of full liquids. Joy

I had surgery Feb. 25th and moved to the pureed section of my diet today. I had small curd low-fat cottage cheese. It tasted like heaven after all the liquids. I had an egg scrambled with a little milk to give it the loose consistency. I am totally off caffeine and decided it would be a good thing to try to stay off of it. I freeze my water bottles and then let them melt some in the refrigerator. I have found this to be a good way to get the liquids. Three bottles one each part of the day and I'm done. I haven't had any problems with any of the foods yet. Our dietician taught us to listen to our pouch and when it begins to hurt it is time to quit.

Hi! I am 9 days post. My Dr. has me on their food supplement product. Those consist of soups, jello, pudding, hot chocolate, capucino. Each envelope has 15 grams of protien, I get 4 "choices" a day. Each choice is an envelope of powder mixed with 7oz of water. I can otherwise eat SF pudding, jello, low fat yogurt, and cream soups with skim milk. I get so full on my 4 "choices" I have not eaten much of the othe stuff. The campbells soup at hand is good. I tried that yesterday. I am drinking lots of propel and water. I bought some SF tang but have not tried that. I still get hungery. I still crave other naughty foods. Do you? I feel great. I have almost no pain at all! I feel bad for those who are having a hard time. I am breezing through so far. Prayer works! Pray for me to stop wanting the things I cant have. I am craving chicken fingers and chineese food and dark chocolate cheese cake!

Kate, I don't get hungry (11 days out from open RNY), but do think about a bite of this or that at times. I've been doing SF popsycles and SF snow cones to get the crunch in that I was missing. I think part of my craving is under control because the months before surgery I did high protein/low carb and have given up bread, pasta, potatoes, rice and rich desserts. When I did that it really curb my cravings big time. I lost 50 lbs prior to surgery, so this is just an on-going extension for me in many ways. Mary

I was on a pre op diet too. It was hard but I did it. I was on the same food product as I am now, only then I got 10 choices a day. I am looking into seeing a phychologist. I think I have a real problem with the way I look at food. It has always been an after thought, but now I know it is a real problem mentally. I really dont want to screw this tool up. I have been blessed to have in the first place! I gnawed on some bacon the other day. I didnt swollow it. I spit it out after I chewed it up. Thanks for responding. I need all of the help I can get. God bless.

Hi Rachel - I had my surgery on 2/27 as well (lap RNY). After the first day postop (nothing at all :-/ ), we can have soft foods for 2 weeks. This includes cream of wheat, oatmeal, SF puddings or jello, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, applesauce / pureed fruits, and blenderized soups... supposed to have 4-6 oz of these 3 times per day and then 3 protein shakes/puddings/supplements - I find I really like the Robard/AHS pudding/shake supplements... and I like them better as a pudding then as a shake. Of course, with the pudding it's easier to set the spoon down and not eat too fast. With a drink, I find I have a hard time gauging what is "too fast" and wind up with gas or a 'too full/too fast' feeling. I've tried Glucerna, which the hospital dietician recommended, but I'm pretty sure I dumped on one of them earlier today, so will probably stay away from them from now on except in 'gotta have SOMEthing' mode... I've also tried Spirutein (avail at health food stores) - not bad, but a bit grainy... I also have some Protidiet fruit punch protein drink, and some orange-pineapple Bariatrix that I got at a place online that I've had, and those are both pretty good stuff and not grainy at all. I use a hand blender to mix up my drinks (if powdered). I also have a "tub o' powder" lol as I call it (ProScore 100 I think, Chocolate). It's not terrible, but if I have other options, I'd rather use those The next step for me will be this coming Friday, 2 weeks out. Our surgeon lets us go to well-cooked fish, well-cooked (soft) pasta, well cooked (soft) veggies, and eggs (suggested scrambled) and add those in to the previous stuff - can also start having crunchies like toast or crackers - but it's a 'watch it/be careful' category for those because of densities if not fully and completely chewed until almost a liquid. We had to have a clear liquid diet 3 days before surgery (SF jellos, water, kool-aid/crystal light, etc). so I'm pretty sick of all that by now, and staying mostly on the soft foods. I've been adding spices(chives, pepper, Lawry's Salt-Free 17 (dehyd veggies & spice blend)) to the mashed potatoes and cottage cheese to add to the taste, but I may stop as I think I'm eating too fast and possibly dumping as a result.. it hasn't been bad nausea, but I do break out in a sweat occasionally - of course, the pepper will do that too I also have added cinnamon & equal to the cottage cheese and/or cream of wheat too when I felt I needed something 'sweet' to fight off the head hungries This surgery really is an amazing tool, but I think the big battle for me is going to be against the 'head hungers' and the 'I want"s... :-/ The small advantage I have is that my wife had it 6 months ahead of me, so she can be my support now, like I was hers before. I know what I should/shouldn't be eating, but I think it's human nature (in fact, I know it is lol) to push the envelope... Of course, pushing leads to dumping.... I'm pretty sure I've 'dumped' once or twice now, but I haven't thrown up yet - it's not really something you want to repeat when it happens, but it's bound to happen sooner or later if you eat too fast or without thinking/remembering that you have to eat slowly.... One of the things I'm looking to try after next friday (besides tunafish lol) is a modified lasagne-type dish with a little spaghetti sauce and a little cottage cheese or ricotta in it, then either nuked or baked for a while. I'm not sure I'll even need the pasta to start - just something a little more 'normal' would be nice.. maybe some *well chopped* cooked spinach for iron and vitamins... I better stop.. I'm making *myself* head-hungry.. My best wishes go out to those of you still on just liquid diets - I don't know how you do it (except that you have to) - because I'm just so glad my surgeon doesn't require it except for the 3 days pre-surgery that I can't even begin to tell you... Hugs to all - ...Nick

Boy... After reading all these posts... I don't feel I have had it that bad LOL. I came home from the hospital eating SF koolaid, Broths, Hot Cereal, Creamed soups. After one week I started my vitamins and began eating regular food. I have had Chicken Fetaccini Alfredo from Ground Round, McD's Yogurt Parfait, Tuna Helper Hotdish, Chicken, Rice. Pretty much anything I want to eat. I just have to eat it slow and chew, chew, chew. Also I fill up FAST. 1oz of food and I am done. I have gotten the heartburn feeling a couple times from saying "Oh, just one more bite". But I have yet to vomit. I can drink my water like normal again. I can take regular drinks instead of sip, sip, sip. I had my surgery on 2/24 and was back last Fri for a checkup. I am down 18lbs. Dr said I was doing great and to keep it up. We also had no preop stuff. Just no eating after midnight. I did find out at the Ground Round that they will do half portions if you ask. I got a half portion and still ended up bringing home 3/4's of it.

Hi all, I'm 15 days post-op and I'm on soft foods. My surgeon is pretty notorious for going through the food stages quickly. I was on soft food 4 days after surgery. I don't feel like eating much, but I do three times per day b/c I'm supposed to. I eat scrambled eggs a few days per week. Tuna fish (1/2 can) with about 1 table spoon of fat-free mayo (great protein source--allows me to skip one of the awlful shakes). Chicken breast either pureed with mayo OR diced with touch of Atkins Bar-b-q sauce. I usually eat a Dannon "light-n-creamy" yogurt each day. Every other day I have half a can of Progresso soup (either Lentil, split pea or bean). That's about it besides my protein shake and other liquids. Yesterday, I had a carb-control soft-baked choc. chip cookie from Entenmanns (only 2g of sugar--no dumping) . It tasted awesome, but I still don't feel like eating solids. Still, a good thing to have on standby when the "food blues" hits you. Continued success to all , Darrin
