How's everyone doing?
I'm fairly new to this board but am enjoying being a member here. It is so nice to know others are in the same time frame as me with surgery and recovery so there is a place to come directly to share experiences.
I feel very blessed that my recovery has been so great. I had open RNY on 2/25 (Weds) and came home 2/28 (Sat). That night we went out to dinner (I didn't eat) because I felt so good and to sociallize with friends. The next day went shopping too. Each day has gotten better and better. I haven't needed any pain meds at all since the 3rd day out. Walk every day or use my Tony Little Gazelle (glider) as it uses the same movements as walking and i haven't been cleared to do regular exercise yet.
My surgeon believes in full liquids (broth, propel water, water, diluted juices, protein drinks, SF jello, SF popsicles) for 4 to 6 weeks. So far so good, just a blessing that I'm not hungry at all.
I'm down 10 lbs as of this morning for a total of 60 lbs since last year. It doesn't seem possible, and I'm so happy to be on the losing side. I thought my surgery date would never get here especially after I had to do a last minute cancellation in November because of a family emergency. When I got my new February date, I hardly told a soul just in case I had to cancel again. Everything feel into place this time.
So how is everyone else doing?

Mary, I feel the same way you do. I feel blessed to have had the surgery and have such an easy recovery. I had a lap RYN done on 2-17, it happened so fast that I could hardly believe it. I was originally scheduled for June when there was an opening, the surgeon's office called me the friday before my surgery and asked if I wanted to take it. Of course, I said yes. I quit taking pain meds after the 3rd day also (mostly because they cause me to sleep for most of the day and I couldn't get enough liquid or protein if I sleep all the time). I have lost a total of 35 pounds since 1 month pre-op. One week after surgery I started walking 6 times a week for 2 miles or more. I feel great except for the scrambled eggs that I ate yesterday. I ate two egg whites with a little cheese and within 10 minutes was very uncomfortable and nauseous for several hours. I have not craved eggs today...LOL.
Congratulations on your weight loss and keep up the good work!!!

Dorothy,
Sounds like you are doing well too. My surgeon requires full liquids for a month. My Hubby and I have joked that my birthday dinner next month will be mashed potatoes and yogurt if I am lucky enough to be on pureed foods by then. LOL.
I can understand staying away from eggs for a while. The Kaiser Dietitian said that many WLS patients have an easier time with hard boiled eggs than scambled. Something about the texture being different. Might be worth trying.

Sounds like you are doing great Mary! I had mine on 2/16, I had open, I took my pain meds for about a week. I'm doing pretty good now. Unlike you, the full liquid diet is really getting to me. I get so frustrated. I was down 18lbs 9 days after my surgery, and I go tomorrow to weigh again, I really hope I've lost some more.
Good Luck to you!
You are doing great!!! 2 lbs a day weight loss is fantastic. I'm down 10 lbs as of this morning for a total of 60 lbs since last year. I'm 11 days out from surgery.
I have found that I miss crunching things, so do at least one popsicle a day. Also snow cones using SF syrups etc help with the crunch too. We go out to eat a lot. Most restauants I can get broth, but once in a while just have water while hubby eats. I must admit (since we always shared food) that I am tempted at times to take a bite, then catch myself. It is not because I am hungry, but old habits die hard. I keep reminding myself that my tummy is still healing and I sure don't want to do anything that would disturb the staple line.
Wishing you the best. I'm sure you will have a successful weigh in too.
I see my regular PCP tomorrow and hope they will eliminate my last BP med as my BP is steadily dropping since surgery. I eliminated one already months ago with the weight loss. Then I will be off all meds. Then the next step will be to be able to sleep without my CPAP.

I agree with you that this message board is very helpful. I had my surgery on Feb. 25th also. I had an open RNY and I've done very well. I was in moderate pain for about 5 days and then it started to get better and now I feel good except for a little fatique. I was down 14 lbs at the end of my first week and I don't know how much this week. I refuse to be driven by the scale. I am very happy I decided to have this surgery and I'm looking at the phases of eating as part of the healing process. Best Wishes for a speedy recovery.
I am doing great as well. I had lap RNY on 2/24. I am eating everything I want, getting in my liquids. I will admit that the protein is giving me a little trouble. I have been doing a protein shake for breakfast which is 20g. But the dr says that counts as my meal. So even if I had 3 shakes a day I would only be at 60g. And when I eat Real food, They said I am not to follow it up with another shake. So I am trying to find that happy medium where I can eat normal food and still get in my protein. I get full so fast of regular food, that I cant eat much. Hence the protein problem.
AnyWhey Tasteless protein can be added to real food to up the protein content. That may be one way to get more in. Pro-Complex states you can use 2 scoops of its protein powder for a drink/shake for a total of 55 grams of protein in one drink. I haven't made it that way yet, but do use 1 scoop. You might want to check around for higher protein shakes. I purchase some Isopure ones from GNC readymade in a can and they are 35 grams each. I like the banana one the best.
Hope you find some solutions.
