I can't seem to get enough to drink. And I keep forgetting to sip as slowly as I should. I'm sure I have swallowed 8 oz in as little as 30 min. Am I hurting myself? I got in 80 oz fluid yesterday, but my mouth is still parched and my lips are cracked and peeling. My surgery was 3/1. Has anyone here had a similar experience? Fortunately, nothing I drink is giving me a pouch-ache, but I can't tell if it is full or running right through. Thanks for your help. Joy

My surgery was 2/25. I'm able to get in at least 64 oz a day now of fluids. I do have to slow myself down now with drinking. No problem with dry lips or skin for me at this point and I can quench my thirst. Are you doing a lot of high sodium broth? That could make you very thirsty.

No-- I seem super sensitive to salt. I can't stand the broth. Mostly milk with protein, water, decaf tea, with a little yogurt, or thin cereal thrown in. (I'm on full liquids). Tomorrow I start soft foods. I will have to watch salt carefully there. Joy

I'm on full liquids for 1 month (broth, diluted juices, propel water, water, SF jello, protein drinks). No yogur****ered down cereal etc. I can start pureed foods at the 4 to 6 wk mark. Thank goodness I am not hungry, so the fluids haven't been a problem for me. Hope you find a solution to your thirst. Mary

Joy - I had surgery on 2/16 and was very thirsty for several days afterwards. It's better now, but I still have a hard time getting in all my liquids. I feel as though I would have to have drink in-hand and sipping it constantly to get it all in. I can't do that (work, etc.), so I'm doing the best I can. I don't feel hydrated enough overall, and my skin is very dry and peeling in some places. I just keep trying to do the best I can. Hopefully the thirsty feeling for you will abate very quickly! Jules

Thanks, Jules. It is not gone, but it is already getting better. It does keep me drinking though! I still tend to drink too much too fast, but my pouch does not seem to mind. The dry skin may be from reduction in dietary fat as much as from dehydration. I don't know what to do about that except lotion or bag balm. At least when I go back to work I can keep a drink in hand--I have a desk job. Good luck to you and thanks for sharing... Joy
