1 week Post Op-questions
Hey everyone--i am 1 week post op today. Feeling pretty good. Staples a little sore but overall good.
Does not feel like I have lost any weight and am concerned? Anyone ever thought "did he do it right"?, did he really even do the surgery?, or is something wrong because thats how I feel. How soon does the weight start coming off?
Laurie
Laurie, my surgery was on the 25th. I had open RNY, no staples as they did a cosmetic closing (stitches underneath, superglue on top, a few pieces of tape across). I'm still a little sore but really is getting less and less. Haven't needed any pain meds since 3rd day out not even a Tylenol. I have said to my husband that I feel so good it seems impossible that they actually did the surgery, so that part I totally understand.
My biggest advantage is that I have no hunger at all. Very happy to be living on liquids. Not that I don't think about a bite of this or that, but it is not from hunger.
I'm down 7 lbs as of this morning (for a total of 57 since last year). I'm walking at least twice a day, drinking tons of fluids. My weight loss started a day or two after I got home. Remember too it is not uncommon to have a weight gain from being in the hospital from all of the IVs. I think some times too our bodies go into shock a little after surgery, so that can delay the weight loss too.
Don't stress, just keep walking and drinking the weight will start to come off very soon.

Hello! You will be surprised! I had the surgery on the 13th. I was in the hospital for a week and before I had gotten out on that friday I hadn't lost a lb. I am told because of the IV's and that you are swollen after the surgery. Well, I had to go back to the doctor the following Monday and voila! I had lost 20 lbs. just over the weekend. I weighed myself a few days ago and had only lost an additional 6 lbs. The time will come just wait and see the weight will just melt off. Keep your head up!
