Hi everyone, I was wondering if it is normal to only lose 10 lbs 12 days post op? I have been reading about alot of people doing almost twice that in a 2 week period. Does the protien actually make you lose? The only protein I've found that i can tolerate in from the Carnation Instant Breakfast. I have been having 2 serving a day with added dry milk with the rest of the diet. Any suggestions? Thanks so much, Annie LAP - 2/17/04 highest weight 276 weight on surgery date 249.5 todays weight 239.5

Hey Annie, your weight loss is great. keep in mind, if you hadn't had the surgery you might have gained in those two weeks instead of losing. I had mine on 2/16 and I had lost 18lbs as of Thurs. 9 days out. However. I started at nearly 100 lbs heavier than you, so I will prob lose faster in the beginning. I think you want to concentrate on the protein for your own health, but it is so hard being on liquids. I tried some of the slim fast shakes because I was so sick on CIB, and they aren't to bad. But just eat what you can and make sure you are walking. You are doing great!

Hi Annie Stacy is right. The higher your weight when you start out, the larger the amounts you'll loose in same amount of time. This is true no matter what your weight loss method (WLS or Weigh****chers). Keep the right prospective on this journey. It's not important how fast you loose, so long as you LOOSE...right? It's best not to compare yourself to others, but if you must, the person you compare yourself to has to have at least the same starting BMI you did or else it's apples to oranges comparison. As far as the protein shakes, they're not supposed to make you loose. Thier function is simply to make sure you get the 70-80grams of protein your body needs that you won't be able get through eating right now. I don't know the exact sience behind this, but based on reading many postings by others, it seems if you don't take in enough protein, your body won't loose weight as fast as it could. I've read that for some, they can only tolerate Carnation Instant Breakfast and if that's your situation, you've gotta do what works. However, Carnation isn't really designed to be a high protein supplement, but simply a meal replacement. You may not be getting enough protein from this drink alone. Also, check the sugar content. You should try to keep each intake of sugar to less than 13 grams. Myself, I've been having trouble tolerating the protein shakes, so I understand how you feel about them. I've been getting alot of wisdom passed on to me by others here. Check out a posting dated 2.27.04 entitled "Having trouble with Protein drinks." There's lots of good advice there. Best wishes Darrin

Hi Annie! I am out 2 weeks and I have only lost 12 lbs. I wondered if I was going too slow too - I was a little disappointed at first. But, it is almost a lb a day, so in a year - we will be invisible! Congratulations!!
