Having a hard time with Protein drinks

I had my surgery on Feb. 10th. I am having the worst time with protein drinks. They make me very nauses. I've been dry-heaving alot after I have one. Even when I smell the mix it makes me want to toss everything up. (still on clear liquids and yogurt) I've tried the ones in the can, really cold. I got the unflavored/tasteless one from Unjury. I just can't get it down. I've tried to make it like a shake. I just don't know what to do. I can start on mushy foods next Tuesday, but feel like trying something sooner. I need help! Anyone else having problems with the protein drinks? I don't want to spend a whole bunch of money on cans of protein powders that I can't get down. I think that it might be the Whey in the drinks that makes me sick. I just don't know! Thanks for listening and any help would be appreciated! Brandi

I had trouble with the protein drinks until I tryed the Carnation Sugar free Instant Breakfast mixed with skim milk. I also had to slowly sip it. I am 6 months out and have lost 90lbs. Good luck. Ann

I was having trouble with some of the proteins. I figured out that I can't tolerate milk whick I was mixing my chocolate protein powder with. All of the creamy types make me nausaus. I found the the Nectars are fantastic, I especially like the Apple Ecstasy, it's bright apple green and tastes like a green apple. I use the blender with ice and some water and it's 34 grams protein. Marj PS, I got a bunch of sample pkgs. from Vitalady.com that way I could test a varity of flavors & brands andnow I'm ready to order the bigger containers.

I had a lot of trouble too. Can't tolerate dairy, even 100% Lactaid. Tried soy milk, which comes in flavors also. It only has 5 gm of protein per 8 ounces but I found I really liked it, much to my surprise. Then tried protein powder in it but it gets too thick and lands in my stomach like a brick. So the only one I found so far that I can sip and get in, and keep in, is the Adkins Advantage. I'm extremely happy that I didn't buy any more powder than I did. The Adkins is tolerable for me. But I alternate mornings of that with mornings of soy milk and scrambled eggs. Good luck Brandi. I KNOW it's hard but we'll get through this ! sunny

I had my surgery in January, like you I got so sick just thinking about the shakes. So I stopped drinking them for a couple weeks and did my best just eating protein, so a couple weeks ago I decided to try them again..and everything went down just fine. I'm glad to say I'm getting between 70 and 90 grams of protein in a day and boy is the weight coming off now!! There by no means GREAT, but I know my body needs them and I feel better with the extra protein. I think it's just too much too soon. My Doc said that if something doesn't agree with you, wait a couple weeks and try again. It has been wonderful advice. char

Brandy, I had surgery the same day as you. I have been very tired because I have not been able to get my protein. Like you the shakes make me nauseaus. After I drink one it takes about 6 hours to feel better. I tried a new one today called protein ice. It is pre-mixed and fruity. I am not sick yet, let's cross out fingers. I will add that the first 2 weeks after surgery I had not problems with the shakes then boom.
