I had my surgery on 2-17 and went home fromt the hospital on 2-19, and have been so weak and in so much pain ever since. I try to get up and walk every hour and keep on top of the pain meds, but I need some advise. Could someone help???

I had surgery on 2-10-04 Open RNY and I didn't start feeling up to par until about the 9th or 10th day. The pain will decrease each day. I tried to get off the pain med. early because all I wanted to do was sleep. I'm feeling really good now. Not 100% but feeling good. Good luck, Vickie

I too had my surgery on 2/17/2004 and was home 2 days later. The first 2 days after coming home were kinda a blur. I took my pain meds because I felt it was better to take them and be able to rest comfortably than to do anything else. I felt I need to heal. It has been 1 week for me today - and I can tell a difference every day - still do not have a lot of energy but I know that will come back - after all you cannot get much energy from broth-jello and sugar free popsickles. I will be eating that until next week. I am ready for something else but I made a commitiment that I would follow whatever the DR. says. Hang in ther, 6 months from now it will be all worth it. You will feel and be able to get around so much better.

Jennifer, I had open rny on 2/10. Couldn't believe how horrible I felt for the first 7 days after, and I took the pain med for about 12 days, as needed. If you feel you need it, take it. That is what it is there for. I did not turn the corner until the 8th day after surgery, and even now 18 days later, I do not feel ready to drive or get out of the house. You see these posts from people who went back to work 2 weeks after surgery & can't believe it. You will eventually feel better. I read somewhere that it is 2 weeks of misery for a healthy rest of your life, so hang in there. Everyone heals differently. It may have to do with any pre-existing health conditions you had before surgery or how you are being taken care of at home. Do you have someone helping you? I will pray for a speedy recovery for you! Kathy

I too had my surgery on 2-17 and I was in a lot of pain when I came home. Could not find a comfortable way to sleep. I am now finally able to sleep in my bed as of last night. Still have some pain but nothing compared to the first 8 days. Dr. said the pain was normal. I hope you are feeling better now.
