2 weeks Post-Op!
Hello Everyone!
It's so good to be back! I hope everyone is well, whereever you are in "the process."
I'm now 2 weeks post-op! And, I think I've done relatively well. I feel good today! (Of course, it's still early!) I've lost 28.5 pounds so far! And ALL of that was in the past 7 days! I didn't lose any weight the first week... matter of fact I gained... fluid retention from the hospital stay according to my doctor's office.
I haven't had too much difficulty eating... since I haven't been really hungry. It is tough trying to get the protein in. I started the protein shakes this week and that's lots better for me. Getting in the water has been (and continues to be) the most difficult for me. If anyone has any ideas about how best to get the water in I'd love to hear. Prior to the surgery, I was a water junkie. Now I can barely stand the taste! I've tried some of the flavored waters, and that's a little better, but not much!
I also haven't been walking much. I had what is called a "seroma" (not sure about spelling) from one of my incisions. Apparently the only way to treat it is by packing the wound with sterile gauze a couple of times per day so it can drain and heal from the inside out. It has caused me quite a bit of pain this past week and made walking all but impossible. But, it's better now, and hopefully, I'll be able to start walking soon.
I'd love to hear from anyone else who had surgery around the time I did (Feb 3rd) and to hear how they are managing. Best of luck to you all!
Hi, Ruby! Don't feel bad about the seroma, that happened to me too. It hurts a little right now because I just had my stitches taken out yesterday. It didn't hurt at first but the further my doctor went up the more it pulled. I thiink I over did my exercising yesterday but I sure slept like a rock last night which made up for it. My surgery was on the 4th, by the way.
I found out that I had gained a couple of pounds myself but I am determined not to get discouraged. The doctor told me that mine was also from being in the hospital and not being able to move around as well. Plus, we keep getting bad weather so I'm confined to pretty much walking around the house as much as I can tolerate.
Bright Blessings,
Susan
I had my surgery (lap RNY) the same day as you Ruby, and came home from the hospital on Feb 5. My recovery has gone very smoothly - - so far no complications, although today I feel a little quesy - - I think this is from the chewable multivitamins (Centrum) I took last night. They just don't seem to set very well.
Otherwise, physically speaking, I'm good, though battling emotions - - I think my hormones were put out of whack somewhat by the surgery along with dealing with our changing relationship with food. Can't say I've really had any lasting cravings, and none of those are for things like sweets or chocolate (really unusual for a chocoholic!) - - just things like a plain old hot dog (no bun)! Go figure! Been on the pureed stage since 1 week post-op (when I saw the doc for 1st follow-up) and think I will be at this stage for about the next month or so, slowly advancing to regular food.
Started with an exercise program yesterday (nothing for my abs - don't want to hurt anything there!), so am a little bit sore today, but not too bad. My husband and I joined a club on Valentine's day. I think with him exercising with me, it will make it easier for me to continue.
I read in Carnie Wilson's book about the seroma (she had one) and understand it is pretty painful, so I hope that both of you recover soon from that little setback. Give your body time to heal itself!
My incisions (6 total) are pretty well healed - - I've been putting a mixture of Vitamin E oil and Neosporin on them since the band-aids came off, which I think has helped them heal faster. Did you have the stitches because of the seroma? I had no stitches. I must say, I am totally amazed with the lap surgery. I've had back surgery and compared to that, this surgery was a breeze. I came home from hospital off of pain meds with my only discomfort just a slight pulling at the incisions. I plan to return to work on Feb 23rd.
As of this morning on my scale (a doctor's scale), I've lost 24 lbs!
Good luck to all!
hi! I also had surgery on the 3rd, and last sat. i began draining like crazy!...no real pain from it though, just alot of mess!....i went back for my follow-up yesterday, and had my staples removed..{i had open}...and the incision looks great, healing well, but i found out from my food diary i kept, that i had been eating the wrong things!....well, not the things, but i hadn't been blenderizing them, just grinding them into mush......everything i read in the book they gave me made me think it was ok!...it should have been liquified!...luckily no harm, no foul!....could have really hurt myself!....so, now next week i can begin solid food! everything so far has stayed down, and only once did i feel nausious!....the very best news was getting on the scale, and finding out that in 2 weeks i have lost 54lbs!!
things just keep getting better!!!!!
best of luc****ep up the good work everyone!!
