Hey Tonya,
I am a bit confused here!! Your picture doesn't look like anyone I meet Friday night! Are you the lady with my new little friend Patrick?!!! Lisa has posted about the walk on Sept 18, I can't wait, I think it will be fun. Anyway, let me know if I have the right person in mind that I met!!! Have a great week, Barbara
OHHHHHHH I hate I missed the get together.... I had a wedding to cater Saturday so I was cooking all day Friday and also.. the young man who was missing from Burke County and found Tuesday.. He and his family are VERY CLOSE friends of mine so my week has been extremely busy and full of ups and downs. His funeral was today..... I so much want to go the the next get together... I would love to meet all you HUZZY Women... LOL and YES I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK LMAO....
Ohhh btw.... who is in a size 10 shorts.... I am so jealous.. I can wear a FEW 10's but I mostly am in a size 12 (I've been here since about June and I want to get shrinking again)LOL
Ok... I hope everyone is doing well.. I hope to see all the Hickory Surgical Folks Thursday night... and the rest of you.. I hope to see at one of the get togethers... take care.. hugs and kisses all around....
Debbie,
I am sorry to hear you have had a set back. Don't despair I was in your exact position of being denied (application cancelled) 13 months ago and I resubmitted (appealed) and was eventually approved, has DS surgery and have lost 160 lbs all in 13 months.
You must go to your doctor's office and get them to give you a copy of the letter they received form OHIP. The letter will have told the doctor not to give a copy to the patient, but I and others have got their doctors to give them a copy. The letter will provide exact details as to what your doctor has to send to OHIP to resume processing your application. From here on in I would fill out all forms and draft all supporting letters and consultation reports of your GP and your specialists.
If you only got your doctor to fill in and sign your OCC and you did not prepare a letter from your Doctor to OHIP, then you would not likely get approved by OHIP. I do think every OHIP OCC should have a letter from your doctor and from you, but I have been told that OHIP usually does not read the letter from the patients only the OCC form and letters form you doctors.
Your OCC application should be completely filled out when you take it into your Referring Ontario Physician for signature. You should also bring in with you a letter from your Referring Ontario Physician (that you prepared for him/her to sign or revise and sign). This letter from your doctor must describe your obesity condition (i.e. height, weight, BMI, waist circumference, co-morbidities and treatments/consultations for your co-morbidities, etc.) and concludes that a delay in obtaining WLS in Ontario will result in an increased risk of death and/or medically significant long term tissue damage (e.g., knees, discs, heart tissue, etc..). To help ensure OHIP approval, you should also provide your doctor copies of letters called "Consultation Reports" from your specialists regarding your comorbidities. These letters, if possible, should also conclude that a delay in obtaining WLS in Ontario will result in an increased risk of death and/or medically significant long term tissue damage (you should also draft these letters for your specialists to sign or revise and sign). You should also have the letter form your surgeon saying you are a suitable candidate for WLS, if you have completed an initial surgical consult. I would also recommend you attach to your application a personal letter of appeal from you and a photo of yourself in your underwear. I have been told that no one who sent in a photo of themselves in there underwear has ever been denied by OHIP.
See my profile to see some of what I went through last year with OHIP. Just send me an e-mail if you want me to send you copies of my successful; OCC and supporting letters for reference purposes. If you send me a copy of your "cancellation letter" from OHIP, I would be happy to provide you with ideas as to how to get approved.
Hang in there, it can sometimes be a longer journey than you planned, but there is a lot of help available. Try and keep confident.

Thanks Rachel!
I really had a blast and it was so good for all of us to get together and meet. It really brings us closer together!! I wish I could have spent more time talking to everyone! I pray that your stomach ulcers give you relief soon. You may want to talk with Pat Simmons about the ulcers, she had one that landed her in the hospital. If ever you would like to talk, please email me!! By the way, you are so much prettier in person, your picture on here just doesn't do you justice!
have a great week,
Barbara
