pre-op Diets

I figured you would say that, but this is pure torture for me! Today I upped my water and had cabbage soup, but it still hasn't taken the edge off.  They say by day 3 it gets easier. Well tomorrow is day 4, we shall see.

ps- I really don't understand how they expect "foodies" to stick with these types of diet. I wonder how long it takes the body to go into starvation mode...

Its so strange how we all have different diets but our surgeries are the same(bypass or sleeve)...

My aunt had the bypass last year with the same group but different Dr and she didn't have to do

one thing but stop eating at 8 pm the night before!! For me I am on a 1000 calorie diet with min 60 gms

of protein..  Suggestions are protein shakes, broth, Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones... I have been eating

salads ,yogurt, special k breakfast sandwich, sf popsicles, fiber one brownie..This is til the night before   my surgery..

And they all say you have to follow theirs 100% or no surgery.  Because this is THE diet to shrink your liver to have a safer surgery

I wish ours was more realistic to follow!  I did better doing Atkins when I had the band out and they didn't give me ANY diet.  The surgeon even told the DH my liver and GB looked GREAT.  Four months later I have to go thru torture, why?

Good Luck!

Now that's the pre-op diet I want, lol!  However, today is day 6 and I'm not hungry at all, I've only had one protein shake today and a boiled egg.  That's great for me being its 5 in the evening and the weekend! Good luck...let us k ow how it goes...

I want a boiled egg

I have finished the first eight days of the 5 Shakes a day. The 15th day I have 7 protein fruit drinks and than surgery hear I come. I changed up from every 3 hours to every 2.5 hours after being still hungry after day 5.  I will make it now without issue, I'm sure. I still have a desire to eat food.  I have a am coffee protein drink, than vanilla, than strawberry, than chocolate and than the peach. If I get hungry, I get a fiber tea/gelatin. That's it every day for 14 days.

Yesterday I was cleaning and popped 2 almonds in my mouth before I realized what I had done and spit them out.

Good luck to all!

I am on day 5 of my 2-week liquid diet. Luckily, my surgeon does not require you to buy the shakes through his office (Opti) but gave these guidelines: shakes are to be between 100-150 each and contain AT LEAST 15g of protein per shake.

So, I got some Pure Protein shakes RTD (21g) and a majority of my shakes I am using EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control RTD(17g) since they were $25 for a case of 24 at BJ's

The day before surgery, clear liquids only (as in clear...no milk/juice/etc.)

Ok, so I have to drink 5 shakes a day and at least 64oz water on top of that. The first 2 days were rough, but I managed to steer clear of temptation, and now I do not get hungry or crave food. Commercials don't bother me...actually last night we watched Man vs. Food as a family, and was great, no cravings or yearnings at all!

I will be using the Premiere Protein and EAS powder from Walmart afterwards.   I also have 6-3 pound jars of Nectar.  I have so much protein powder around here I will never get thru it in years.  Just hoping something goes down afterwards.

My pre op diet is very strict. Protien shakes mixed with water...no milk products at all. No caffeine either. Other that the shakes I can have low sodium broth, sugar free jello, or sugar free popsicles. That's it. I'm on day 10 and I haven't ripped anyones arm off which I consider an accomplishment. My surgery is the 23 rd and I can't wait!
