I hope that your pneuomonia has cleared up. How are you feeling? Welcome to the losers bench:) I am keeping track of my ounces by writing them down as I drink them in a little noteboo****ep on me.

My surgery was the day after yours.  They had me on Dilaudid for 2 days... it was sooooooo nice.  I miss the Dilaudid :)  My arms are black and blue because of blood draws as well.  they found pneumonia in one of my lungs so they needed to check my blood levels 2-3 times a day... that sucked :(

I am working on the fluids as well.  I need to keep better track of how much I am drinking... how are you handling that?

Hello all:) I had my laprascopic RNY GB on 1-10-11. I had it on a Monday and wasn't discharged until afternoon Thursday because of pain control issues (anesthesia said like 0.5% of the people are difficult pain wise to manage and lucky me I was one of them).

When they woke me up from surgery, I thought they were still operating on me the pain hurt so bad. They got it under control with a diluadid PCA but then took that away on Tuesday and the pain came back. Eventually, we got it under control. Now I am only having to take liquid tylenol, yay for progress! The other annoying thing at the hospital is I ended up with over 20 needle sticks from labs and IV's because my veins were not being the least bit cooperative.

Today, Sunday, is the first day I got to advance to full liquid diet in small amounts. So far cream of potato soup strained and protein powder added, chocolate protein shake went down okay. I tried a few bites of strained baby bananas and they were way too sweet and I got nauseated.  I thought I was doing a great job getting my 60 oz. of liquids in daily, only to find out today I miscounted and have only been getting 30 oz in. So I am really working on that one.

I have 5 small, inch and halfish incisions that look good, still have some gas pain/bloating but it is getting better each day. First evening home from the hospital I was up 13 pounds from admission weight due to swelling, but now I got rid of those and officially have lost 1.5 pounds. I hope the weight starts dropping quicker soon, my surgeon said probably bout 30 pounds first month, then 10-15 pounds a month after that.

I wish everyone well on their journeys. Feel free to msg or comment if you have any thoughts or questions:)

Topic: RE: FINALLY the board is open

I am having lapband surgery on Jan 18,2011. I am getting nervous but I am sure that feeling is normal. I am also kind of beating myself up for not sticking to my three week preop diet. I did great for the first ten days. Then I went to the doctor on Jan 7th for my preop visit and the doctors nurse ask me how my kidney funtion was (I am diabetic, but not on meds yet). I told her that it was normal then she preceeded to tell me about another male patient who was having kidney problems. Of course she did not mention names. But she said that he had been instructed to go off of his preop diet for a couple days because of his kidney problems. She said that they had to litterly talk him into eating normal for a couple days because his mind was so set on following the diet. So here I am struggle to stay on mine and I hear this...needless to say my wheels were turning. If he will be okay to go off his..then so will I (I thought). So that night I went out and had mexican food. I did choose shrimp and chicken and had not eaten much else that day. I had every intention of getting back to it the next day. It didn't happen. I had Japanese the next evening and finished my leftovers the day after that (both days I did not go totally crazy eating though). So on Monday I did well after three days of cheating but it was so hard. Then I slipped again on Tuesday. I did well on Wednesday and sliped again on Thursday. I cheated again on Friday and went out for fried seaford. Then tonight as I was taking my son skating I went by Bking and thought W******. I thought I will not be able to eat one again. I had only had a protein drink, yogurt and an apple all day...and here I go and blow it that late at night. Now I am only a couple of days from surgery (down 18pounds) and I am so mad at myself. I am also worried if my cheating will cause complications. Does anyone else have a story kind of like mine?

Get your vitamins from Vitalady. And you can get a pill crusher.

Flintstones are for kids not bariatric patients.

At least you won't have the gas to deal with like the laproscopic surgeries do.

Good luck with yours.

I have my surgery in 10 days and have had to tell my work that I will be off longer than expected.  Most everyone I know has had their surgery with the laproscope, but my surgeon only does it open.  He is the best in the region so I am willing to this his way.   I  have had c-sections and did all right after those, but was curious how much different it is going to be with an upper abdomen incision.    Only time will tell, I know, but thought I would see if there is anyone else having an open procedure.
