Hello all:) I had my laprascopic RNY GB on 1-10-11. I had it on a Monday and wasn't discharged until afternoon Thursday because of pain control issues (anesthesia said like 0.5% of the people are difficult pain wise to manage and lucky me I was one of them).

When they woke me up from surgery, I thought they were still operating on me the pain hurt so bad. They got it under control with a diluadid PCA but then took that away on Tuesday and the pain came back. Eventually, we got it under control. Now I am only having to take liquid tylenol, yay for progress! The other annoying thing at the hospital is I ended up with over 20 needle sticks from labs and IV's because my veins were not being the least bit cooperative.

Today, Sunday, is the first day I got to advance to full liquid diet in small amounts. So far cream of potato soup strained and protein powder added, chocolate protein shake went down okay. I tried a few bites of strained baby bananas and they were way too sweet and I got nauseated.  I thought I was doing a great job getting my 60 oz. of liquids in daily, only to find out today I miscounted and have only been getting 30 oz in. So I am really working on that one.

I have 5 small, inch and halfish incisions that look good, still have some gas pain/bloating but it is getting better each day. First evening home from the hospital I was up 13 pounds from admission weight due to swelling, but now I got rid of those and officially have lost 1.5 pounds. I hope the weight starts dropping quicker soon, my surgeon said probably bout 30 pounds first month, then 10-15 pounds a month after that.

I wish everyone well on their journeys. Feel free to msg or comment if you have any thoughts or questions:)

My surgery was the day after yours.  They had me on Dilaudid for 2 days... it was sooooooo nice.  I miss the Dilaudid :)  My arms are black and blue because of blood draws as well.  they found pneumonia in one of my lungs so they needed to check my blood levels 2-3 times a day... that sucked :(

I am working on the fluids as well.  I need to keep better track of how much I am drinking... how are you handling that?

I hope that your pneuomonia has cleared up. How are you feeling? Welcome to the losers bench:) I am keeping track of my ounces by writing them down as I drink them in a little noteboo****ep on me.

I'm a week further out, and STILL struggling to get my water in!  I'm eating 2oz protein per meal, trying to get a protein shake in every day (which I need to do until I get up to 3 oz protein per meal), and yesterday was the first day that I got my full 64oz water.  My doctors aren't concerned, either - they expected me to be working towards it the first couple of weeks (I thought I was supposed to be able to do it, and I felt awful having not!).

I use a 32oz water bottle, which keeps me from having to write it down - just fill in the morning and again during the day.  Then, when I wanted to make Crystal light yesterday, I used 20oz water from that bottle.  I find that MUCH easier than keeping track.

Just this week am I finding that I can drink more than 2 sips at a time, and can I get in 2oz of food consistently.  I'm also starting to get my energy back.  For those of you only a week out - it does get better, and soon!  The first week home was just about the worse time in my life - I was sore, exhausted, and completely miserable.  Last week was better, and this week I'm back to work, participating in my normal activities (took my daughter to museums on Friday and Monday, volunteering at her play rehearsal tonight, meeting for local political campaign tomorrow), and I feel much more like myself.
